I've got a row of LEDs running across the front of my house that I turn on and reprogram at Halloween and winter solstice time, and I'd like to run them in Pride too but

  1. I've probably only got a couple of years before people start making Assumptions about my lights having Pride flag colours rather than Progress flag colours, but
  2. I don't have any brown LEDs

Fedi, how are you handling progress colours with RGB LEDs this year? Bonus points for folks running a single LED line 'cause that's what I'm doing, post pics pls!

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@ifixcoinops I’ve always assumed brown is a hard light to create, so usually I see progress colors in pigment and traditional rainbow in light. But maybe I’m wrong about that? Curious to see what you get back.

Been annoyed with Doodle's more and more aggressive "pay us" stance recently, so went searching for some sort of alternative. I'm , working in a community of polyamorous people. Scheduling is a PAIN without polls, and also, I don't need to schedule so many meetings that it's worth paying what Doodle wants.

I'm pleased to report that Framadate (https://framadate.org/abc/en/) appears to be an awesome and free alternative. That, amusingly, I'm now going to go give money to.

I have a scab on my elbow because I … leaned too hard or long on it, and my skin just decided to give up in that spot?

This is absolutely fantastic: Greek soldiers donned ancient Mycenaean armor and ran around reenacting battle techniques from the Iliad so that researchers could determine if the 51 pound pile of metal was intended to be ceremonial or actually used. They have photos! The solider looks like a steampunk robot! I love when #reenactment is used as part of #history research.

Also I’m laughing at what the #HistoryBounding version might be…

For an elaborate Greek gold hairnet with garnet inlays, dating from the 3rd century BC, an older medallion of Medusa was reused in the centre.

I’m so ridiculously excited that I realized the providence of “still tied to the apron strings” as a weaving term meaning that it’s not done yet because it’s still attached to the loom.

@jonobie@social.coop avatar

Now that I (finally) have my 32" walnut stained Kromski loom put together [swoon, it is SO PRETTY] and have gotten the texsolv apron strings, I wanna warp and go!

...But now I'm waiting on warp separators. Grumble-mumble-being-patient-sucks.

What do y'all have on your loom right now or doing for craft? Pretty pictures will surely tide me over until Monday.

So this is how my morning went, not sad about it at all...

Also working on take 3 to get decent steel cut oats for breakfast. I feel like this is bizarrely challenging - the past two days they've stuck to the pan and didn't seem like they had enough water. Today I partially covered them and they didn't stick, but were more chewy than I liked Anyone have a favorite method of preparing steel cut oats?

jonobie, (edited )
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@Matt_Noyes @gglockner @amerpie Clearly my problem, from seeing your responses, is that I'm procrastinating and should be doing these things the night (or a few days) before! Thanks. :)

Ya know, my whole feed right now is people joyously nerding out on their special interests, several tags of utter bloody silliness, and a whole lotta pride full of light and colour and strength, plus a few heartwarming deep and ernest conversations I get to watch unfold.

THIS is what social media was meant to be.

Denizens of Mastodonia you are dah bomb. 💥

@vlrny The Monsterdon hashtag makes me grin every time I see it on my feed. I have no idea what people are watching generally, but the out of context live posting about it is fantastic.

We have got to get off using potable water to flush toilets. I'd say we need to get off using water toilets altogether, but I don't think some folks are ready for that conversation.

Fresh clean water has already gotten scarcer. Treating water only to use it to flush shit down is a really warped thing our society does.

Of course the Vampire fiction that smooshes Tudor history together with modern Supernatural Fiction appeals.

It's because you've had hyper focus on both since - forever 🙄

Duh.

jonobie,

@Faintdreams I like both of these topics a lot too! (Though it’s hard if something plays too fast and loose with the history or specifically the clothing, which has been my particular interest.)

What is said fiction? I’m intrigued!

NCE passed, so one more hurdle down. I don't need it until full licensure, which is a bit off. It does mean I now have a clock (3 years) to get my associates' hours and go for the full license. But I think it was better to do earlier before the school stuff faded.

The test was less bullshit than some of the practice tests, but still had useless stuff like "Who invented the empty chair technique?" (Who cares??) And some questions that basically had equivalent answers.

Slept like ass, feel terrible, everything hurts. The Finnish nightless nights or whatever it's called is wild because while the sun theoretically drops below the horizon it doesn't actually get dark at all! What an entirely normal thing to live with!

jonobie,
@jonobie@social.coop avatar

@sinituulia Ugh. I’m so sorry, that is rough.

We don’t have it nearly as dramatically as you here in the Seattle region of the US, but even sunset at 9 pm and sunrise at 5 am means there’s light til 11 pm and again at 330 am, and it can be HARD.

I both love it (more energy during the day! Sometimes boundless!) and hate it (if I happen to wake up after 4am, my body is like “it’s daytiiiiiime, let’s go!!).
