Oh, fuck off, LinkedIn. I don't want to connect to any of these people. Nor do I care what companies are searching for me.

Can I turn these notifications off?

The culture of 'dropping in' has withered away in Australian cities in particular. Even before the pandemic it had waned, but the pandemic has really reinforced habits of social isolation.

How can we revive this act of friendship AND be considerate of the person we are dropping in on?

One thing I think is important is to first ask people if they are free for a visit.

@perkinsy Astonishingly, I had 4 people drop by this week, one of them twice. I wasn’t sure how to respond even. I mean, this isn’t normal, even for SA?

Two of them did text though in advance to ask if it was okay.

In Canberra, my neighbours in the same apartment block never even looked at me, i needed to book three weeks in advance to see my best friend and another friend looked uneasy when i suggested coming over for a meal and thought maybe a cafe would be more suitable.

Wow. Angry Israeli spokesdroid on 7.30 literally arguing that "the number of children we killed is only 7000"

@luciedigitalni only 7000 children. He must be very disappointed. It must be hard on these barbaric psychopaths when they can't meet their quotas.

"...Rinehart’s support for swimming has also been unusual in her direct-to-athlete funding, which only expanded after a falling out with the peak body.

"Through the “Hancock Swimmer Support Scheme”, Australia’s swimmers receive salary-like payments across three tiers: for top Olympians, those on the cusp of the national team and younger athletes with potential. Australia’s best swimmers reportedly received $32,000 directly from Rinehart in 2021. This would be supplemented by Swimming Australia funding and commercial endorsements."

@luciedigitalni In other words, she owns them.

Love the bit where it says she even gives them gifts: earrings she has designed for the girls and laptops for the men.

@luciedigitalni just noticed, through her portrait, her resemblance to a certain roman Caesar.

Why do pharmacies sell so many jellybeans? Prominently displayed?

While getting a blood test today in a nearby medical centre, I passed by the pharmacy and saw they had a dedicated table out the front of Glucojel jelly beans and bears. Inside there was another whole stand.

Do they serve some medical purpose?

mativity,
@mativity@aus.social avatar

@luciedigitalni Ah! I don't have diabetes but they did help my faintness after being told I had very low blood pressure today.

ABC Classic presenters really selling their souls these days. Russell Torrance just compared Taylor Swift to Beethoven.

@perkinsy God knows. But ABC Classic has been desperately plumbing the depths of populism for some years now.

@perkinsy Okay, now they are playing orchestral arrangements of Taylor Swift songs in Drive. 😬
