livus, to worldwithoutus in Algeria: appeal trial begins for around a hundred people accused of lynching a man during the 2021 fires

From the article:

The accused are being prosecuted for “premeditated intentional homicide, offense of aggression endangering territorial integrity and conspiracy”. They are also accused of“terrorist and subversive acts detrimental to state security, national unity and the stability of institutions as well as their normal functioning, by sowing terror among the population and creating a climate of insecurity by moral and physical aggression against people, putting their lives and property in danger”.

In less than a week in August 2021, fires had killed at least 90 people in Kabylia and ravaged thousands of hectares.

After hearing that he was suspected of having started a fire, Djamel Bensmaïl, who had come to help the villagers put out the flames, voluntarily presented himself to the police to provide explanations for his presence.

Images relayed by social networks showed the crowd surrounding the police van and extracting the young man from the vehicle after hitting him. Mr. Bensmaïl, aged 38, was beaten and then burned alive, while young people took selfies in front of his corpse.

At the time of the events, which had caused a wave of indignation throughout the country, the images of the lynching which had gone viral were commented on in particular via the hashtag . The perpetrators of the selfies had tried to cover their tracks but Internet users from all over the country compiled videos and took screenshots so that the crime, which had marked people’s minds with its horror, did not go unpunished.

The arrests took place in several regions of the country and some people involved in the lynching were handed over to the police by their own families.

Nice to see a Republican do something about actual grooming for once.

sin_free_for_00_days, to realtesla in A striking number of work accidents in the Tesla factory in Grünheide

I had no idea factories were that dangerous:

…documents from the rescue centers also documented that Tesla boss Elon Musk’s factory requested an ambulance or helicopter 247 times in the first year after opening alone.

Holy shit! That seems insane. Just another ambulance or helicopter showing up almost daily. Then:

For comparison: Converted to the number of employees, this is three times as many emergencies – in a similar period of time – as occurred, for example, at the Audi factory in Ingolstadt.

OK, 1/3 is a lot less of course, but even that seems like a crazy high level. I’ve worked in warehouses before, and we’d end up with an ambulance maybe a couple of times a year.
