@ai6yr I was almost never around cats as a child, but I did adopt two as an adult. Hopefully that means I don't have the increased schizophrenia risk. I was actually thinking of going to the shelter today to perhaps adopt another cat. I haven't had one for over 6 years...
Here’s what I do:
-I wear an n95 when scooping kitty litter and wash my hands right afterwards.
-I wear rubber gloves and a mask when I (regularly) wash the litter box with a little clorox and dish soap.
@firefly@ai6yr The cats I've had have been 100% indoors. I'm allergic to cats, but it didn't stop me from adopting the two that I did. I'll stop by the shelter today I haven't yet decided if I'm going to adopt another one... it's been 6+ years since I've had a pet...
@JasonStiff@firefly You might consider a loaner/foster kitty, if your local shelter does that. Although, everyone I know who has done that ended up adopting the first foster cat they got 🤔
@ai6yr@JasonStiff Walking into the shelter in the first place is where it all goes down for me. All the pets in the shelter spot a sucker when they see one.
