Has anyone had experience of a cat with hay fever?
For a week now, Copper has been intermittently sneezing, with red eyes, runny but dry nose, wheezing and lethargic. He's still eating heartily, doesn't have a temperature, and everything else is normal.
He improves overnight when I keep him in, which makes me think it's an external stimulus.
He loves being outdoors so I don't want to deprive him.

Edit: Muting as thread has been hijacked. Thanks to all who offered genuine advice.

I hope your cat gets better. I sometimes get hayfever and it's really nasty!

@Henrysbridge you. I have it too. I take a nightly pill which keeps it under control.

@junesim63 Keep him indoors, for his health, and the health of the environment: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/faq-outdoor-cats-and-their-effects-on-birds/

To be fair here, we need to put this in a UK and European context.
1, Cats are native to European countries (many examples of, sadly rare species eg Scottish Wild Cats)
2, The stress of forcing cats used to free roaming to stay indoors is huge.
3, In the UK context, my experience is that bird "kills" are relatively rare compared to mice etc (see 1). But then, my cats are quite lazy...

For fairness, here's a similar UK article.

We have two very active cats who insist on bringing things back in. Over the last 5 years I’ve kept a diary and by percentage with individual scores where they are minisacule)
Mice 90%
Rabbits 8-9%
Hare - 1
Shrews -3
Stoat - 1
Birds - 5
Bats - 1 (Pipistrelle, who was recovered, and revived in a closed container and released the next evening)
Grey squirrels - 12 (no reds, mixed population - greys are trapped here)
Small terriers who walk past - 0

A lucky escape for the terrier!

@Henrysbridge @TomSwirly @junesim63 @BashStKid They hurry past very quickly. The large tabby sits by the side of the road and glares at them…

Your stats look similar to our experience. However all our cats are belled in the hope of protecting the water voles and bats, and touch wood, that’s worked so far.
Also, none of ours bother squirrels, possibly because they think they’re French loir.

@BashStKid @Henrysbridge @TomSwirly @junesim63 ours won’t have collars. And living in woodland, we would be concerned about getting them caught. We did experiment with a collar GPS for a short while out of curiosity , but it’s only use was in finding it when dumped. 😺😸

Never had a problem with the reds and delighted even when we just find a tail of a grey in the kitchen.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t intending to be prescriptive, lots of cats do indeed not like collars.

Anyway, I fear we’ve somewhat diverted June’s original thread here.

@BashStKid @Henrysbridge @junesim63 I know, conversations do wobble 😉

@junesim63 one of my cats has it, according to the vet. Lots of cats have hayfever. My cat mainly gets skin problems.

@goodbye Yes, that's what most of the reputable websites say. That's why I thought I'd ask. He's booked into the vet tomorrow.

@junesim63 It looks like cats can get seasonal allergic rhinitis. If your cat like being brushed, perhaps use a dampened brush to get ride of pollen etc from their coat before coming indoors? I think vets can prescribe an antihistamine.

@KayeMac04 I've booked him into the vets tomorrow morning, but I thought I'd canvass on here for some experience first. Wish me luck wrestling him into his carrier!
