After a little advice please, as a not very practiced seamstress,
I have a blouse that I want to add a panel into the sleeves to make them a bit more roomy, if I unpick the seam how easy is it likely to be to add an extra piece of fabric.
Can anyone recommend any stitchers who might have online tutorials, I've looked but can't find anything really useful,
Thanks in advance 👍

@DoubleTreble @sewing The shoulder seam or the arm seam? I think adding even an inch in the arm seam would make it extremely hard to re-set the shoulder afterwards. Have you ever eased a shoulder/armpit seam that was cut to fit properly? You might want to practice that skill first, before you go changing the circumference. Then consider making the addition eye-shaped, not rectangular, to retain the exact width at the shoulder while adding space lower down.

@DoubleTreble @sewing I think it would be important to find a similar fabric. Changing sleeves isn’t easy. If you want to add a piece of fabric that has the same width everywhere, you’d have to detach it a bit from the shoulder and also change the cuff.
Avoid that by adding a piece that gets thinner at the end, but that’s definitely a hand sewing job then. That’s not a common clothes alteration, adding new sleeves might be easier and there are tutorials for that.

It will definitely hand sewn!
I don't really want to replace the whole sleeve, I have similar weight fabric, thanks for the guidance!
I'll have a go, the blouse was a charity shop purchase so I've nothing to loose!!

@DoubleTreble @sewing 👍 I hope it all goes to plan

Judeet88,

@DoubleTreble @sewing It will be relatively easy to add a panel and have two seams on the sleeve. If the piece is triangular, ie the point up near the armhole and widening towards the cuff you won't have to do any work on the size of the armhole on the body of the blouse. If the piece is lozenge shaped, then the cuffs will remain the same size and you also won't have to adjust the armhole.

Hmmmmm 🤔
Interesting thanks, that sounds like how I was hoping to do it 👍
