@ai6yr almost 20 years ago, the first thing I knocked off my bucket list as a grownup was learning to scuba dive and diving the Florida keys. It was an amazing adventure but utterly heartbreaking too. We already fucking knew back then that corals bleached and died in prolonged temps above 84f! And I could see it. The reef was still gorgeous and full of life, but it was obviously not healthy, with big dead patches.
A couple of years after that, we started our slow migration west and north, and I gradually started to realize I’ll never see those reefs again. That was my last chance to see them. Now they’re almost all gone and it’s bath water warm for the rest of the summer.
Fuck, this world is heartbreaking.
