One thing I didn't mention is that, like many other prey animals, they are extremely good at hiding health problems. You've heard how the jackals will separate the weak or sick member from the herd; prey animals evolve to disguise being sick or weak.
So you have to watch rabbits a little closer for problems. By the time you actually see that they're "a little #sick", they may in fact be quite sick indeed. Add to this that rabbits can be prone to G.I. #stasis (which I understand is also a big deal in #horses, and probably #donkeys?), which can be fatal very quickly, and it means you need to keep on your toes.
If your rabbit isn't well - uncharacteristically refusing food or something - get them to an #exotics#vet#pronto.
#Lena, who I've written about, suddenly showed signs of #pain yesterday - rapid #breathing, hunched #posture, little interest in #food. I couldn't find anyone who would look at her yesterday, but had her at our #vet this morning. It turns out the delay didn't change anything.
She was in congestive #heart failure. Clearly this is something that doesn't happen overnight, but she seemed literally 100% fine the day before. She was given hours, not days, by the vet.
@cazabon Ah, they are so damn good at hiding symptoms. 😔 We watch every little thing with Skye but still she manages to elude us at times. I am so deeply sorry for your loss 💔😔. @cazabon I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. Saying farewell hurts so much and the void these little creatures leave in our heart and home is so painful. Sending gentle condolences your way.
