@ifixcoinops ...I think you may have successfully inspired me to go look at my own PHP-fragment bloggity-do and maybe even fix the stuff I've just been living with broken for some 20 years

Also now I want a Game Dad to play my fave old Atari 2600 games on, so well done you

So remember those orange ink cartridges I put in the cheap second hand fountain pen? After, I might add, thoroughly cleaning the nib and letting it dry? That ink that came out a light gold/orange on the page? Like this?

https://wandering.shop/@NicoleJLeBoeuf/112261462672877026

Today it came out darn near BLACK. (The picture makes it look lighter & greener than the quite dark brown it really was.)

Eventually it shaded back to gold/orange, but - how? Thornton, what kind of trick ink IS this?!

, y'all. How even.

NicoleJLeBoeuf,
@NicoleJLeBoeuf@wandering.shop avatar

(Disregard the writing above the disassembled pen; that was done with a Moonman Mini filled with Diamine's Chocolate Borwn. Which might give you an idea of the lighting distortion in my crappy photos.)

Using for my Morning Pages. Relying on my handwriting to be completely obscure (although there is an f-bomb visible, shock and horror!) while relying on less-than-ideal camera/photography options to show off the colors.

This Sheaffer student demonstrator had a converter filled with J. Herbin's vert pré in it yesterday. Before starting today, I swapped in a converter filled with iroshizuku ama-iro. The gradual color shift across the first two pages was lovely.

Two pages of handwriting in a spiral notebook displaying a gradual shift from J. Herbin's vert pré (light olive green) to iroshizuku's ama-iro (teal/peacock blue), result of changing colors of ink without washing the fountain pen nib.
Fountain pen ink: Pilot's iroshizuku ama-iro (teal/peacock blue) in the bottle and on the page (handwriting). Also a vintage Sheaffer student demonstrator fine nib pen.

@Sadsquatch "the accelerator pedal cover slides off and gets stuck under a panel and locks the accelerator pressed down and keeps the Cybertruck stuck at maximum velocity."

That seems... bad? Very horri-terri-bad. Like, weighing in at several hundred terrabads. That's BAD.

Sad realization: I use TWSBIs because I'm disorganized and don't want to figure out which converter goes with which pen.

NicoleJLeBoeuf,
@NicoleJLeBoeuf@wandering.shop avatar

@coral I mean, once size converter fits all is a great advertisement for TWSBIs. As much as I love Sheaffers, they're either intended as cartridge pens or they have one converter that fits THAT PEN, and then it leaks. (Looking at you, Agio.)

I'm inching closer and closer to actually just going ahead and acquiring a TWSBI. What's a good entry model? I prize smooth writing over "looks cool," and I'm fond of demonstrators so I can check ink levels/colors at a glance.

NicoleJLeBoeuf,
@NicoleJLeBoeuf@wandering.shop avatar

@paradoxmo @jessekelber Although, I'm getting a little confused here: Isn't a piston/plunger filler a type of converter? If not, then what is the thing that is properly called a converter?

cf. https://www.jetpens.com/blog/Fountain-Pen-Filling-Systems-Explained/pt/912 - the thing they call a piston converter is the thing I use the most. I also have a fancy Scheaffer that came with what this article calls a squeeze converter.

@Binder Someone in my building can be heard occasionally playing/practicing the flute, and it makes me think I should pull mine out and practice too, or play our piano more.

I have no idea what brand of this is. I got it for $2 at Arts Parts Creative Reuse Center, along w/ a dozen "orange" Thornton's Luxury Goods ink cartridges for $2.75.

It needed a good soak and some time to dry. After which: BEHOLD! Effortless writing.

(How do y'all take such fantastic photos of your pens and ink and writing, btw? Anyway--)

I maintain my theory that the best, smoothest-writing, most comfortable fountain pens are to be had second-hand for under $10.

@mhoye This was a really fascinating interview. I 100% had not known Jillette no longer identified as Libertarian, and his "road to Damascus" moment on that is poignant as heck.

I do wish he'd said more about his vision of capitalism as something that doesn't require there be winners and losers. Like the interviewer, I was surprised by that, and I disagree reflexively, but I'd like to hear Jillette explain his vision more substantively so I can figure out whether I still disagree, you know?

@sfwrtr Sometimes when I get hungry the higher thinking doesn't get involved, and there are no convenient leftovers to reheat, so I wind up with a plate of combined whatever comes easiest to hand from the fridge.

I call it "I'm eating like an asshole today" and have since assumed it's what's meant when the kids these days say "girl dinner"

Anyway, I think popcorn + kimchi + sardines is precisely the kind of thing I'd do when in that mood. Possibly a couple sticks of celery too.

OMG the latest update (115).

But finally stumbled across a Reddit post that helped me fix the most objectionable (to me) change:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbird/comments/170qh1m/hate_the_new_thunderbird_layout/

After the updated, the message list seemed cramped, line height way too small.

This is because the default "density" changed from, I guess, medium to compact?

That setting lives under the "hamburger menu" (three horizontal lines in the upper right)

Changed it back to medium density, breathed a sigh of relief.

NicoleJLeBoeuf,
@NicoleJLeBoeuf@wandering.shop avatar

@thunderbird Indeed! And a "fix" would not even have been necessary, had the update not "fixed what was not broken" by messing with the accustomed defaults! But I do appreciate your response.

So, about that mechanical, halting paw lift Skye performs in the below video…

Last weekend Skye did this move next to BunMum’s pillow and ended up punching her in the face! 🤣 🤪🥊

Rabbit haltingly lifts paw to face, then performs a face wash with both paws.

@Satori @cazabon First time I saw Holland do that, I was all, "Oh no! What's wrong with your paw? Is it hurting you? Did you injure it? WHAT'S WRONG LI'L BUNNY?!" And of course Holland's like, "...whut? Busy washin my ears, mum, go 'way."

So I toggled over to Member, and THEN my Setting -> Account page was as you described.

Wow. I had been wondering FOREVER how to get at the list of pages I subscribe to!
