We saw these things at Chrissy Beach recently that looked to me like solid spiderwebs from the sea. Now I know they’re called Velella, or “by the sea sailors.” They use their fins like sails to travel long distances. https://www.sígate.com/local/article/velella-velella-san-francisco-beaches-19369462.php

@earthlingusa Yes - I thought you'd really love seeing what they look like when still alive in waters. You can definitely see why they got their sailing name!
