This is what happens when you run anything, including universities, as for-profit businesses rather than what they are and should be.

@fifilamoura @Greengordon I'm only familiar with one name - University Canada West, it was running in Victoria for 6 yrs. They mostly advertised to international students who weren't able to get into public colleges & universities. Local/BC/Canadian students were less than 5%. Students got shafted when Vic location closed as other colleges/universities didn't recognize UCW credits. Students had to start from scratch or move to Vancouver & finish there. Most students couldn't afford to move.

@fifilamoura @Greengordon UCW is now owned & managed by foreign entities. All the previous Canadian investors are gone. International students still make up over 95% of enrollments.

@fifilamoura @Greengordon UCW destroyed Victoria School of Art - after they bought it years back. They never followed through with development of Fine Arts degree program. Enrollment sank to under 20 students, from close to 300 students - not long after UCW takeover. They were jacking up course fees, while not providing any extra value for those costly increases. They screwed over lots of art students with just that failure alone. That school had mostly local BC students enrolled.

I was a pretty big #BillieHoliday fan too but it was different than my lifelong love for Nina Simone.

I related to Billie Holliday's depression a lot, as a young adult. I almost relished in my depression for awhile. Nina Simone helped me feel much more empowered. Nina helped me to gain strength to fight against patriarchy. While Billie made me feel like I should just resign myself to endless patriarchy. Nina revived & enlivened my hope in humanity & my fellow women.

I got arrested by VanPD for protesting their inaction on missing Indigenous sex workers in the 90s, in downtown East Vancouver. I cranked up this song, while charging myself into VanPD offices. My supporters played song when I was released from illegal detainment, after ✊️❤️🦅

It matters a lot if you keep showing up & cops don't. All of that has to be documented on public record. All of that helps boost your cause & also help with any additional legal suits, to follow. Please show up & ensure your court attendance is officially recorded & take a photo of that official confirmation too(you have legal rights to ask for & obtain permission to do this).

@run_atalanta I LOVED how hard she always fought for her all black band mates too. She refused to play shows in deep South USA - when promoters told her that their all white audiences would be upset if she showed up with her full black band. She basically told them to fuxk off & booked other shows instead. I LOVE HER!
