This recount business is reminiscent of the 2010 Birmingham Edgbaston General Election count where the Conservatives were convinced they had defeated Labour's Gisela Stuart and demanded recounts
That year the local elections were held on the same day. The Tory counting monitors had sample counts of the council votes (where they'd done reasonably well) and, in extrapolating the numbers to the constituency, the #s didn't reconcile.
