@enobacon Thank you, this is wild. I'm too much of a weenie to hop curbs on my MTB. I did in my youth on my full rigid commuter, but now even tho I know how and I can time bunny hops just fine over cracks in the road and my 29er would probably roll over them anyway, I just am way too risk averse to hop >4" curbs. I'll take on a rock on a trail, but not a curb.

@HayiWena yeah, you have to get the speed and timing right, pedal position, gearing, etc. This rim and tire setup is pretty good at preventing pinch flats too, I just wish it had 36 spokes. The slow and ratcheting 2-step technique from the 3rd video is what I would do with kids on. Blooper reel:

ended up with the cranks vertical right when I needed power

The technique I would recommend on something this tall though, especially if laden, is to stop with the rear wheel at the curb and then crank your way up it. @HayiWena

same setup but only a weak ~1in lift of the front wheel and then stopping, ratcheting the pedals

You can also just take it one wheel at a time.

@enobacon This is what I do with a bakfiet. Because of the smaller (20in) front wheel, trying to hop a curb at speed runs a very real risk of just not making it (and then you & your cargo flop over). In addition , the front wheel being further away from the rider combined with a load in the box makes pulling up on the handlebars less effective.

But once the front wheel is up, the rest is cake - the rear wheel is a much bigger 26in, and it's almost directly under you so you can pitch forward.

@Andres4NY @enobacon Yep I will also try to approach at an angle and use some handlebar action to sort of twist/lever that front wheel up

@pleaseclap @Andres4NY I would love to add some outboard footrests to the front of the supercargo, that would allow it to be leaned over, roll up next to the curb to get the footrest on, and lever the wheel up, pivot/lean, probably could get up 12in or more given enough room to swing the back around, not sure how many 8in stairs I could climb that way. (footrests, for taller passengers to comfortably ride with their feet out, like motorcycle highway pegs.)

@pleaseclap @enobacon Interesting, I never tried/considered that.

@Andres4NY @enobacon It's maybe not advisable: steering arms are expensive lol

@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@Andres4NY yes, with the front motor you can even get some climbing torque rather than just trying to push up it. In this vid, I'm standing, lifting the back of the bike in one hand and the handlebar with throttle and front brake in the other, really need to mount the camera screen where I could see this well from back there:

little curbs are just bumps though

riding up and then down a ~3in curb
