lol. Shelter wouldn't let us take home fosters (in a hard shell carrier) in the #CargoBike because "it's too dangerous". I even deflated the tires a bit for this, for a smoother ride.
[for background, every cat I've ever dealt with has been terrified in a car. They hate the speed, and the loud engine/vibrations. It's one of the reasons I started transporting my former cats by bike.]
We're deciding not to work with that shelter/rescue, since apparently there's one lady in particular there who seems to hate bikes (and people who bike). Like, literally giving us shit now about our foster room/crate set up, even though we already did a video walk-through to show them the setup.
I really don't get why fosters and rescues make it so difficult. I talked with a golden retriever rescue once that wouldn't let me adopt because I let my dog out at night to go the bathroom in a fenced yard. "But there are coyotes in your area" Well, yes, that's what the fence is for...
@darwinwoodka I get in general why they're strict (at the very least, they're on the hook for vet bills if something happens!), but also, like, they were perfectly fine with everything until they heard I arrived by bike. Then all the sudden they needed to triple-check everything.
@Andres4NY We chose to foster Cleo in part because she was with an organization that would transport their cats to you...after a year plus of driving the car (we no longer have) to ACC in Brooklyn & Manhattan. Even when the Queens location opens, it's still in a transit desert...sigh.
@VCP Yeah, this foster would also transport to us, but it's also 15 mins away by bike. I thought that would be more convenient than having to deal with random volunteers doing car stuff who may or may not show up on time. Apparently not. 🤷
What was especially frustrating was that I warned them I'd show up by (cargo) bike, and the person I talked to was okay with that. Another person there was also okay with it, it was only a third person who was like, "you can't do that."
@Andres4NY Ridgewood. I'm sure it will be nice to have a new shiny place where there's space for a lot of kitties. but i was hoping it'd be somewhere I could walk or commute quickly to volunteer & i think that's probably just going to be too annoying to get to.
