Indeed, would agree on both aspects. The one that yes - with so little travel one might get away with no damper (which is precisely why e.g. the Lauf Forks are limited at 30 mm travel). On the other hand - many people even don't like those because they aren't damped... so - your milage may vary.
And also yes: 30 and even 40 mm is still too little to make a fuzz about. I understand it's a needed stepping stone for buyers and makers alike but what's really needed is more.
