I’m still pretty bummed out about not having FeMC, so I’m not currently planning on picking this up. Especially at that price point.
That said, we now know Eiha and Kouha are in the game and it looks like Shuffle Time is gone, so I think it’s safe to expect some major gameplay changes. Between that and the new scenes, maybe this will be better than it looked at first impression.
I’ll be waiting for reviews for this one before I jump into it personally, but either way I’m still glad that an independent studio is getting this much run for their game.
It’s also releasing at a very good time, with a fairly light release schedule for the genre the rest of the year now that Eiyuden (and probably Suikoden) are pushed back to next year. There are quite a few remakes/remasters on the schedule anyway, not a lot of new stuff like this.
Yes the time is quite good. Last year there were so much games in this genre starting end of summer. This year there isn’t that much. I wish Chained echoes, also a indiependent game, got that much attention as sea of stars pre release. I would played it sonner.
I don’t think I have just one favorite. It’d go back and forth between Final Fantasy VI, Persona 4, and Xenogears. Trails to Azure might be getting up there too.
I replayed Xenogears recently, and I think it says a lot that it’s still my favorite story in gaming despite the last few chapters being super unpolished/unfinished. There’s some excellent character writing including a touching romance, and amazing narrative scope. While the gameplay is certainly messy, I still enjoy the gear battles and the soundtrack is absolutely top-notch.
Admittedly, Amano isn’t a favorite of mine, but I’ve always loved this cover. Even though I don’t do the physical thing anymore, I still want to get the Super Famicom box some day.
I prefer the anime artstyle for several reasons. Most importantly, they tend to age better and I often like to play older games. In addition, I prefer bolder colours and more stylized lighting, which really make your second screenshot pop in comparison. There’s also the the added bonus of more whacky designs (think dragon quest). With an anime artstyle, you can make both whacky and serious designs work easily.
Hard to answer for me. But if i have to choose one it would be Nier Automata. Everything works in that game for me. Best action battle system out of all games in my opinion. Incredible emotional story and interresting designed world with all it weird robots. But i really like other jrp’s as well on the same level.
I would stare at and get lost in each of these pieces for hours in the official FF3 game guide. Would love to get a high quality print of one to hang up.
People in the YT trailer comment section keep mentioning that it will be a “social game” (ソシャゲ), so we can assume it will be a free to play gacha games.
I read that as well, but doesn’t post it here, because i think the source it not that reliable. A week ago Square said it sells strong. But well you never know with Square Enix
Seems there’s some nuance here–it met expectations, just not the high end. I’ve updated the post with links to quotes from someone at the meeting and the Bloomberg report.
