Same for me (more or less)

Ashtear,

First time through Trails to Azure? If so, hope you enjoy! It’s an all-time favorite for me.

yeah first time, I got trail to zero about a month before it cam out

De_Narm,

Last month I’ve played Nier Automata an Final Fantasy 15. Funnily enough, I liked on more than its reputation made me belive I would and the other less. With those two, I’ve also worked through my backlog of physical games.

This month I started Dragon Quest 4 in preparation for the upcoming Dragon Quest Monsters. I’ll probably have time for at least one other game, but I’m undecided yet.

ff15 spoilerI kind of liked some things about it as well. Fight against Leviathan and some other bisses was quite goid and some things like the animation of shiva. For a while the teleportation was nice to play as welk, just got boring a bit because it always feel the same. And this horror section and the end of the base game was weird for me. Buss i guess i liked it because i played through it quite fast.

De_Narm,

more ff15 spoilerThe game play is definitely a mixed bag. For once, most of the other characters have some kind of combo mechanic and other things to consider, Noct however only teleports around and maybe swaps weapons to be more effective - or just uses the royal arms. You play him the most but he’s almost the least interesting one to play as. That being said, I quite liked how many different things the game throws at you. There are cinematic boss fights, a horror section, ‘stealth’ fights, actual hunt sidequests where you hunt down bigger monster, crossover events with other games, interesting dungeons and much more. However, I spend way too much of my playtime just riding my car or some chocobos in an almost straight line to get there. I’d like it a lot less if the bromance between the main cast wasn’t as enjoyable.

Ashtear,

FF15 had some really cool set pieces. Between those and Aranea, I mostly liked the game.

I feel like I missed the memo on NieR: Automata’s final ending. Countless stories of people getting wildly emotional over it and I thought it was just…fine?

Godort,

I’m not sure what the consensus is if it even counts as a JRPG, but I am unbelievably excited for the SMRPG remake this month.

Ashtear,

Don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone in the JRPG community say the original wasn’t, and this looks like it’s almost a 1:1 remake.

The JRPG community tends to claim most of Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario as well.

I agree with Ashtear. The first Mario RPG is for sure a JRPG. But i wouldn’t be to strict about it, if you not sure just post. I’m thinking about getting the mario rog as well, but when and sadly Nintendo ganew doesn’t get cheaper. Maybe i find a good used version.

Ashtear,

I finished Atelier Totori last month. One of those games where I thought the story and characters were dramatically better than Atelier Rorona (the only other game in the series I’ve finished) but the UI/UX was such a drag that I probably ended up enjoying the game about as much in the end. Makes me think my favorite game in the series is still ahead of me as I continue on.

I did pick up Atelier Meruru but not sure how much of it I’ll play this month, it’s a busy one for me. I’ll most likely be playing Persona 5 Tactica instead, unless the reviews are especially bad for it.

Honestly, it’s been a pretty light JRPG year for me. My favorite ones were replays.

I was playing Trials of Mana all through October, and I got all the achievements, but there is one thing I have not yet tried on that game, and that is No Future Mode. It is the most difficult mode in the game, and I want to see if I can complete the game in that mode. So, I will be continuing with that game in November.

Afterwards, I may start Octopath Traveler, as that game has been sitting in my Steam library for quite some time.

I finished Star Ocean the First Depature R in October and i think it was fun, but the gameplay age a bit to much. But the demo for the sequel showed me it got a bit better in that regard so of course i just continue playing Star Ocen with Second Story R. And i will play the DLC from Tales of Arise.
