I was talking about 'Blossom' or #MayimBialik to someone else, and I said for the last 7 years or so, I've been disappointed or disgusted because either someone is a '#MeToo perpetrator' (Kevin Spacey, R Kelly, Win Butler, a drummer fron Sigur Ros, etc,), a bigot and/or far right nutter (Eric Clapton, Gary Oldman, Brian Ferry, Tom Araya, Michelle Lee, Kanye West, Camilla Cabello, etc), greedy (performing in apartheid states), etc
It's as if one has to check Wikipedia or Watchmojo channels before buying entertainment (films, music, etc).
If I knew before what I know now about a lot of people, I could have saved my money!!
@MusiqueNow@Jyoti It drives me nuts when people get annoyed when you mention these. I didn't ruin the movie/album/show by bringing this up, they ruined the movie/album/show by being terrible people!
Again, if someone loves listening to Radiohead or The Smiths, they can go for it. I'm not censoring Spotify, unlike what's been done to Ana Dammi Falastini.
But I'm free to point out that they are sending money to genocide-supporters and outright fascists.
But white, middle-class rock fans are probably the most selfish, sheltered demographic in existence. They literally do not give a fuck about anyone who doesn't look/live like them.
@MusiqueNow@Jyoti Yeah. I loved the Smiths as a teenager and it just pisses me off that he's such a horrible person. Needless to say, I don't listen to them or play them on the station since it came out how awful he is, which makes me even more annoyed that he couldn't just be a normal non-racist non-horrible person.
And Spotify is as bad. Between platforming the terrible and ripping off the artist they're just another example of #enshittification
Sadly, it's unfair to Marr, who seems like a lovely bloke but if you stream The Smiths or buy any of their merch / records, you are directly sending a portion of your money to Morrissey.
Who is a racist and supporter of fascism.
I will never work with any promoter / label who thinks funding fascism is okay.
@Jyoti@MusiqueNow@signalthirteen Lucky for me I never liked most of those artists anyway! But I think in most cases their art itself is just art, nothing wrong with putting your old Radiohead or Clapton CD on if that's your thing, it's their current racism we want to censure by not giving them any more money now. (well we've known about Clapton since before CDs, so make that vintage LP)
@MusiqueNow@Jyoti In the early 80s I always assumed that the Smiths was a parody band. That he was the outsider. I mean, how could I take “There's a Light that Never Goes Out" or "Girlfriend in a Coma" seriously? "Those who belong" slid into the rest of his music that it was him who didn't belong because he was awkward and unlovable. It was only afterwards I learned what he was like that I had to jettison the Smiths, despite the fact that it was the soundtrack to a lot of my teenage years.
By the way, I thought I should mention about a year or two ago, I started boosting a series of posts about artists who turned out to be real horrid fuckers, so others don't waste their money either!
