@MusiqueNow

Personally, I won't ever be giving Thom Yorke my time or money:

@Jyoti

Thanks for telling me.

I was talking about 'Blossom' or to someone else, and I said for the last 7 years or so, I've been disappointed or disgusted because either someone is a ' perpetrator' (Kevin Spacey, R Kelly, Win Butler, a drummer fron Sigur Ros, etc,), a bigot and/or far right nutter (Eric Clapton, Gary Oldman, Brian Ferry, Tom Araya, Michelle Lee, Kanye West, Camilla Cabello, etc), greedy (performing in apartheid states), etc

It's as if one has to check Wikipedia or Watchmojo channels before buying entertainment (films, music,etc).

If I knew before what I know now about a lot of people, I could have saved my money!!

No worries, comrade. This is what grassroots media and activism is all about - I have been educated by MANY of your posts, thank you!

You're welcome. I'm glad youbtold me that. Thanks

@MusiqueNow @Jyoti It drives me nuts when people get annoyed when you mention these. I didn't ruin the movie/album/show by bringing this up, they ruined the movie/album/show by being terrible people!

Jyoti,

@signalthirteen @MusiqueNow

Again, if someone loves listening to Radiohead or The Smiths, they can go for it. I'm not censoring Spotify, unlike what's been done to Ana Dammi Falastini.

But I'm free to point out that they are sending money to genocide-supporters and outright fascists.

But white, middle-class rock fans are probably the most selfish, sheltered demographic in existence. They literally do not give a fuck about anyone who doesn't look/live like them.

@Jyoti @signalthirteen

I was never a fan of or and didn't hear them growing up! But they are certainly cancelled in my book!

'It takes strength to be gentle and kind' well that fucker might follow his own advice!!! What an AWFUL person!!!

Re Spotify : I'm glad I never had an account!

I've never heard of .

Edit, update: So, I just found out it 's a song and I boosted it up just now.

Jyoti,

@MusiqueNow @signalthirteen

The comrades on TikTok are finding various creative ways of subverting the Spotify ban of Ana Dammi - :-P

signalthirteen,
@signalthirteen@mastodon.online avatar

@MusiqueNow @Jyoti Yeah. I loved the Smiths as a teenager and it just pisses me off that he's such a horrible person. Needless to say, I don't listen to them or play them on the station since it came out how awful he is, which makes me even more annoyed that he couldn't just be a normal non-racist non-horrible person.

And Spotify is as bad. Between platforming the terrible and ripping off the artist they're just another example of

@signalthirteen @MusiqueNow

Sadly, it's unfair to Marr, who seems like a lovely bloke but if you stream The Smiths or buy any of their merch / records, you are directly sending a portion of your money to Morrissey.

Who is a racist and supporter of fascism.

I will never work with any promoter / label who thinks funding fascism is okay.

MusiqueNow,

@signalthirteen @Jyoti

My mum told me a lot of her friends were in love with Morrissey, but even when mum was a teenager, she always thought he was a full-of-himself phoney.

Jyoti,
@Jyoti@mas.to avatar

@MusiqueNow @signalthirteen

His whole shtick of nostalgia for a white, 1950s Britain (that never existed in the first place) was always rotten.

But then, what can you expect from a Philip Larkin fan?

I knew the truth about Morrissey from Bengali In Platforms. Which was 1988.

"That life is hard enough when you belong here" ??

Fuck off, you racist dickhead.

bencourtice,
@bencourtice@aus.social avatar

@Jyoti @MusiqueNow @signalthirteen Lucky for me I never liked most of those artists anyway! But I think in most cases their art itself is just art, nothing wrong with putting your old Radiohead or Clapton CD on if that's your thing, it's their current racism we want to censure by not giving them any more money now. (well we've known about Clapton since before CDs, so make that vintage LP)

Terrible, terrible poet beloved by Morrissey and the white middle classes in general.

@MusiqueNow @Jyoti In the early 80s I always assumed that the Smiths was a parody band. That he was the outsider. I mean, how could I take “There's a Light that Never Goes Out" or "Girlfriend in a Coma" seriously? "Those who belong" slid into the rest of his music that it was him who didn't belong because he was awkward and unlovable. It was only afterwards I learned what he was like that I had to jettison the Smiths, despite the fact that it was the soundtrack to a lot of my teenage years.

It's a sad part of growing up, I think. But also a rite of passage.

Re #PhillipLarkin :

WHAT an absolute piece of slime!!!!

I even boosted the article you sent me just in case people didn't catch the reboost the first time!

This scumbag was a nasty, infantile, useless piece of shit!!

Jyoti,
@Jyoti@mas.to avatar

@MusiqueNow

Yup. And yet, he's still revered in some circles.

Circles of scum.

MusiqueNow,

@Jyoti

By the way, I thought I should mention about a year or two ago, I started boosting a series of posts about artists who turned out to be real horrid fuckers, so others don't waste their money either!

Jyoti,

@MusiqueNow

It's a fucker, innit?

raytheonrainbowmissile,
@raytheonrainbowmissile@mastodon.social avatar

@Jyoti wait, isn’t this old news? Unless Thom still stands by his action (which is harder to justify day by day), in which case that fucking sucks.

Still agree with the overall sentiment you’re trying to convey though.

FYI

I have some old boosts from a year or two ago exposing Evil Musicians
FarRight Musicians Tory Musicians, etc.

Sadly, it's getting hard to keep up.

Also, if you hear of any, let me know, or if you see that I boosted someone I didn't know was an arsehole or a sleeazebag, let me know ☮️

Jyoti,
@Jyoti@mas.to avatar

@MusiqueNow @raytheonrainbowmissile

Tbh, I don't mind musicians being Tories. I won't fuck with them but they're allowed to be stupid.

But I draw the line at support for fascism and genocides.

That's not a debate for me.

However, it appears to be a debate for a lot of "alternative" music fans.

Because they're cunts.

Jyoti,
@Jyoti@mas.to avatar

@raytheonrainbowmissile @MusiqueNow

Like so many edgy, "alternative" musicians, Yorke is conspicuously silent on genocide.

Meanwhile Dave Matthews speaks out about Palestine on live telly! I don't like his music but props to him.

Some artists are posers, some are the real deal.

MusiqueNow,
@MusiqueNow@todon.eu avatar

@raytheonrainbowmissile @Jyoti

My understanding is he's still standing by it. And yes, that was 2017, but sadly, some people don't change
