Analysis

"The NYPD’s New Sizzle Reels Aren’t Just Dumb. They’re Dangerous"

This is police propaganda "to justify crackdowns..on dissent while allowing police to portray themselves as heroic."

NYC Mayor Eric Adams repeatedly referred to "professional outside agitators", as police pointed to protestors' supplies: "We got water..supplies..cups..this is very, very organized... There is definitely a mastermind behind this.”

    @decryption Caltex schmaltex. The BP at the other end of town has the best toasties and salad rolls. Not changing.

    @bencourtice@aus.social avatar

    @decryption yeah I am just near there too. Salad rolls with ham, corn beef, salami etc are excellent, made fresh on the day, plenty of salad. Chicken not so good, probably it's out of a can. Maybe the toasties aren't amazing but reasonably good. Don't bother if you're vegetarian though!

    Avocado:

    @bencourtice@aus.social avatar

    @jpm I quite like a (tree-ripened) avocado - cut in half, eat with a spoon. If its properly ripened, the flavour is mild and subtle but excellent. Fuerte variety is my favourite. Supermarket bought avocados rarely match up - usually Hass variety, picked too early and stored too long.

    What would you call a society this genocidal whose blood thirst is still at this, after massacring 30,000 Palestinians & still continue to massacre them?

    Most protests we hear about removing Nethanyahu are largely about internal power struggle, but not against genocide itself.

    Elsewhere I see roadside signs opposing solar farms (!) and in the Kiewa Valley, opposing a big grid-connected battery.

    This is on the north-western outskirts of Melbourne. I don't know what project it is responding to or the arguments behind it, but anti-solar farm campains are mostly either suffering from terminal NIMBYism or ideologically driven. Often both.

    You think automotive engineers ever go “good thing im an automotive engineer because it would be a fucking nightmare to drive this thing if I wasn’t” anyway that’s what working in IT is like

    bencourtice,
    @bencourtice@aus.social avatar

    @kentindell @SwiftOnSecurity There used to be a joke about this. Bill Gates tells some automotive exec that cars would be so much cheaper if Microsoftmade them. Response was: maybe, but they'd also occasionally stop for no apparent reason in the middle of the highway and then lock you out until you did some complex manoevre involving simultaneously lifting the driver door handle and boot while jiggling the aerial.

    @Jyoti @MusiqueNow @signalthirteen Lucky for me I never liked most of those artists anyway! But I think in most cases their art itself is just art, nothing wrong with putting your old Radiohead or Clapton CD on if that's your thing, it's their current racism we want to censure by not giving them any more money now. (well we've known about Clapton since before CDs, so make that vintage LP)
