[Question] What songs do you listen to when lifting at the gym?

I was inspired to listen to a few new artists at the gym recently by an FD Signifier video on how lately female rappers are going hard in a way you can lift to while recent male rappers have mostly been going for a more, calm, rambling flow that is probably better for when you’re relaxing on drugs or driving or something.

So I picked a couple of the female rappers he mentioned that were newer than my aged music tastes (Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, etc.) and added some of their songs to my lifting playlist and ya, some of their songs went pretty hard.

I’m wondering if there are any other good artists I’m missing out on keeping the same rotation forever, so I thought I’d ask the class.

What songs do you listen to when trying to get pumped at the gym?

Bleed - Meshuggah

Parpaing - Igorrr

Manufactured Extinct - Cattle Decapitation

If I’m doing cardio I find Amon Amarth always has a steady beat that’s great for keeping pace. Their music is samey but it works

superduperpirate,

I listen to a synthwave station on Pandora.

It features artists like Com Truise (example: Brokendate) and Magic Sword (example: In The Face Of Evil).

I know it’s not for everyone, but I really dig it.

Can you link to some of those female rapper songs you like lifting to?

I work out to City Morgue, Cxrpse, Fat Nick, and a few others. I listen to the TRASH, TIRADE, and LOCKJAW playlists on Spotify a fair amount but there are some slower less aggressive songs that I skip.

xnauterq,

Eminem - Till I Collapse

Eminem - Lose Yourself

After Forever - Forlorn Hope

Prong - Beg To Differ

Disturbed - Down with the Sickness

Ozzy Osborne - Perry Mason

Megadeth songs

Listening to some metal in a foreign language that you don’t understand can be great too cause you focus on the music and beats and the lyrics aren’t distracting.

WanderingVentra,

Guess I’ll start off by answering my own question.

My lifting playlist has a lot of angry old male rappers (Tech N9ne, Run the Jewels, DMX, Eminem).

It’s got a lot of Alt rock or Alt metal or emo from my youth (Rise Against, Rage Against the Machine, Fall Out Boy).

It also has a lot of random DJ’s that are also on my running playlists, shit I can’t even name that pops up on suggested from Spotify. It all sounds like Porter Robinson or Glitch Mob or Steve Aoki-like stuff. I’m sure I’m aging myself with my tastes and references here lol.
