If you had just caught a shiny (normal) Rattata, would you evolve it into a Raticate? 🤔

@alexcox@mastodon.social avatar

@andycarolan MAYBE if it was PVP relevant…good thing Gible works in Little Cubs because that shiny Garchomo is just a darker muddy iPhone 14 Pro muddy purple

@alexcox Nice! That looks cute!

@andycarolan I didn't evolve mine. I like him better that way!

@andycarolan Even if you changed your mind, make sure not to hit lv100 or it's unevolvable. 😅

@shadow is it the same in Pokémon Go as the core games then?

@andycarolan I had to look it up... evolution has slightly changed so my info is incorrect.

Prior to Generation 8, it is not possible to evolve a Pokémon that is level 100 and requires leveling up to evolve.

In Generation 8 (the generation that launched with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield), however, the mechanic of Rare Candy has changed slightly to enable evolving Pokémon at level 100:

"If a Rare Candy is used on a Level 100 Pokémon that evolves by leveling up and currently meets its evolution requirements, it will evolve (without gaining a level). (This applies to all Pokémon that evolve by leveling up, not just Pokémon that evolve at or above a certain level.)"

This now allows the evolution of Pokémon who reach level 100 without evolving, if the user chooses.

I assume the case is the same for Go but with candies.

@shadow Thanks for that. I only really know anything about Pokémon Go now. The last real game I bought for myself was Y, which I have since given to my son lol.

From what I understand about it, Go works differently to the core games... how different, I don't know lol.

@andycarolan it depends what you’re doing in the game. I’m currently trying to build a shiny living dex, and I need shiny Raticate, so I’d evolve it. But if you’re just having fun and the shiny is a bonus, I’d keep the cute little shiny rat. ☺️

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@rowan_johnson I think I will keep it as a Rattata... as you said, it's a cute little shiny rat.

sierrakim,
@sierrakim@mastodon.nz avatar

@andycarolan A shiny as ugly as Raticate would be funny, but I’m not sure I could bring myself to do it. Entirely theoretical of course, as I have not a single shiny Rattata. :)

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@sierrakim I might keep it as a Rattata lol

soulseared,
@soulseared@mastodon.world avatar

@andycarolan I don’t play anymore but I would only evolve duplicates

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@soulseared That's what I've done before too.

CTD,
@CTD@mastodon.social avatar

@andycarolan why wouldn’t you?

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@CTD Because for a Rat, Rattata is kinda cute 😅

CTD,
@CTD@mastodon.social avatar

@andycarolan Ah I see. Well then, as you were. Raticate is horrible to behold
