There's something unsettling about the way Apple shares presumably private details like Spotify's use of TestFlight and installation figures. These are relatively minor disclosures, but they send a subtle chill nonetheless. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/03/the-app-store-spotify-and-europes-thriving-digital-music-market/

@danielpunkass I suspect those were already part of discovery in the EU already publicized. Spotify is not the good guy in this, any more than Amazon was when they used the DOJ to enshrine their dominance in ebooks.

@danielpunkass if Spotify could host their own binaries for installation and provide an app update mechanism like on macOS, I bet those TestFlight numbers would be lower >.>

@danielpunkass Apple doesn't help their case when they say “Spotify pays Apple nothing.” I heard that at least before the layoffs Spotify had 400+ iOS developers. That is at least that many MacBook Pros they bought. I don't know how many Android developers also chose Macs for their laptops, and then non-developer employees. Even at the very least Spotify has to have one $99/year developer account to be on the store.
