ChowJeeBai, in More EV chargers, bicycle lots and super-low energy buildings at upcoming Punggol Digital District

Hmm. This is Singapore, so enforcement is very good. But so is the sense of entitlement. Good luck from Malaysia.

trewq, in Simba 10Gbps broadband for $29.99/month

Nope. Even the 2.5gb plan still not available for my area. cgnat plus still no static ip option, deal breaker for me

trewq, in All HDB households to get S$300 in Climate Vouchers to buy energy- and water-efficient appliances

SINGAPORE: Families living in Housing Board (HDB) flats will receive S$300 (US$223) in Climate Vouchers to purchase more efficient appliances, said Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor on Monday (Mar 4).

The vouchers are part of the enhanced Climate Friendly Households Programme and come after an initial set of vouchers was given to households in smaller flats.

imPastaSyndrome, in S’pore retirement age to go up to 64 in 2026, re-employment age to rise to 69

Is S’pore a common shortening?

trewq,

Yes, always see that in news every now and then.

JeeBaiChow, in World’s largest ocean-based carbon dioxide removal plant to be built in Singapore

Meanwhile up north in Malaysia, we are still arguing about which language to use.

cyd, in Android users in S’pore to be blocked from installing unverified apps as part of anti-scam trial

Thanks for the heads-up, just disabled Google Play Protect.

Singapore is probably the ideal test case for Google to start normalizing walling off their garden, thanks to how passive locals are, and the ability to point to scams as the justification (a real problem, though not something that justifies this power grab IMO).

I wonder how Chinese Android smartphones will be handled, especially since some large fraction of the old folks who are susceptible to scams might use those. It would be ironic if Chinese phones, falling outside direct Google control, turn into standard bearers for open software ecosystems because of this.

Agreed, another reason to slowly move away from Google operating systems. I’ve been slowly removing my reliance on them and this may just be the push I need for the next step.

trewq, in Guidelines on non-compete clauses being finalised; out second half of 2024: Tan See Leng

If company want non compete restrictions, they should pay full salary for the duration.

But then in business friendly world, what are the chances of that?

trewq, in Iswaran charged with multiple offences including corruption | Channel News Asia

If I remember r correctly you can’t see balance when you tap in and out. It’s a downgrade to me.

cyd, in Sudden layoffs at Lazada left people crying, baffled, say employees

That’s how tech companies do things. It’s the flip side of the high pay when things are good.
