Which is kinda weird as he was against the old order and pro-enlightenment in his youth. But he defines himself via his old name and standing. Losing that scares him (and that is not a lesser fear, tbh).
Right now, Niklas is 8. The usual things will make him cry - the feeling of being treated unjustly, scraping his knee real bad, losing his family and Greta.
Niklas... doesn't have a job. He is the protégé of a rich baron at the end of the 18th century. He wouldn't understand it either. Although he stems from poor landed gentry, jobs aren't something a noble does.
It's rare that Niklas feels depressed, being a sunny and uncomplicated character. His sadness is expressed differently while he grows up - from the heavy, unrestrained sobs when he's taking from his home to the numbing grief he feels when he loses his foster father.

My characters don't tend to engage much in creativity. That is something to keep in mind...
So, I'm traveling a lot over Pentecost and will have time on the train. I can't quite decide which project to tackle first.
