Hey Indian academia - what's our equivalent of an ethics board?
A PhD candidate recently sent me a long questionnaire and there's no consent form or supervisor mention anywhere and I want to gently push back.

@anandphilipc thanks for the info. The person's field was in the social sciences. I'm used to those being as regulated by ethics boards abroad. Which is why I was surprised.

TIL that Gandhi died in the evening, at 5:17 PM.

We always had a one-minute silence in school, around 10 or 11 am, and I assumed it was the time he died, and I remember the narrative about him being late for his morning meeting.

Even the film didn't show a January evening in Delhi.

Tiny but weird.

I'm a bit baffled by this supreme Court order to not mention caste or religion. Does it apply even when it's relevent? What about the SC/ST act cases? The conversion cases? Also uh, surnames, hello?

In 2021, the NCRB conducted research that showed over 77% of our prison occupants being undertrials. I was just looking it up again when I found that the report has been deleted off their website at present.

Two loudspeakers blaring in my neighborhood this morning, one with some mantras japped by some Brahmin, one with some recorded bhajan playing. Yesterday i heard a guy with his cell's SMS tone being a spoken-word "Jai Shree Ram".

I will never forgive that temple for existing or the people celebrating it. Never.

Babri Masjid was destroyed when I was coming of age and it forever defined the unforgiveable violence that majoritatian fascism stands for, and I knew then, as I do today, that it was never worth 'getting over'.

I was looking at wheat straw dinnerware, the newest thing of the eco-friendly plastic-like stuff.
If you research it though, you'll find out that anything that is meant to last longer than one use has some amount of petrocarbon plastic in it.
And its hard to find actual percentages, even on a site like this -

Ceramic, steel, glass and copper are still the best things to buy. Which is easy enough in dinnerwear. But for cookware its a little harder (and way more expensive)
