Does Trump being found guilty actually matter?

Since he can still run for office and become president while in prison, is this actually going to do anything to stop him from being president? Obviously it’s not gonna sway anyone who’s gonna vote for him, so is there any actual way this keeps him from office, or at least has some positive effect for us? I wanna join the...

Thank You, BotM! I migrated here from the corporate social medias as soon as I was aware. I'm still transferring my OC over from IG (not an easy task) to Pixelfed. And I use similar talking points to inform people, often about the very existence of a non-comercial social media. Very few people, maybe 2, since July '23 have even heard of the Fediverse. We shall persist!

"Eugene V. Debs ran, but didn't win.", Captain Obvious. May the next person to run from jail have similar results.

Eugene V. Debs was in an Atlanta penitentiary, serving a ten-year sentence, when he lost the 1920 presidential election. Two years earlier, Debs, a labor leader, had spoken out against America’s involvement in World War I. He was convicted of violating the Espionage Act of 1917, after the prosecution argued that his antiwar speech obstructed military enrollment. The 1920 loss didn’t come as a surprise to Debs, who had run four times before. His fifth and final run, promoted with a campaign button that read “For President Convict No. 9653,” brought him nearly one million votes, says Claire Jerry, curator of political history at the National Museum of American History. President Harding commuted his sentence in December 1921.

Umm, so senna, epsom salts, basically a laxative. Is this a shitpost? The article mentions it often being used with Blue Mass (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_mass), and that's the scary one, as it's mostly quicksilver a.k.a. mercury.

I hope we don't find out what happens when a convicted felon, insurrectionist gets elected to serve. Would he have to serve from prison? None of this makes sense. We live in the stupidest timeline.

I formally request Justice Aileen Cannon be removed from office for blatant bias and incompetence. Please.

Damn, I forgot that part! Does that mean we get 6 more weeks of Judge A. Cannon? If so, I apologize.

Cannabis sativa L.

In mycology one will hear references to 'lumpers' and 'splitters' taxonomically. That is, do we lump these specimens together, or do we split them into difference groupings. When we look at the genetics, it has been the case that we find that those critters that appear similar may not be those that are related by genes/ evolution. And of course by "we" I mean the larger scientific community, not me and the mouse in my pocket. Oh wait, that's not a mouse it's a shrew. ;-)

Local Mom’s Wine Club Cleverly Disguised as a Book Club, Fools No One But Themselves (lemmy.world)

In a quiet suburban neighborhood where minivans outnumber streetlights, a group of women have been ingeniously disguising their love of wine as a book club. While their intentions may be transparent to everyone else, these winos insist that their guise is a stroke of genius. “It’s a sophisticated literary club that explores...

The "extreme" rarity you claim for charging stations is a myth, possibly propagated by the petrol industry. Plugshare offers accurate information regarding the location of charging stations (https://www.plugshare.com/). And the cool thing about that is there are both commercial and home/ office stations, with more coming online all the time. It's kinda good that EM bobbled the supercharger thing, so it encourages more groups to start providing chargers. The great thing about Plugshare and ABRP (abetterrouteplanner.com/) is that it makes it very easy to see and plan for your next charge. Tho' I do agree that the way to go is make the E-charging cheaper, not to make the petrol more expensive, yet.

LoL, our power company has a 'pilot program' for EV charging overnight, the price drops to $0.03/kW as a way of encouraging off peak charging. A decent sized EV battery has 77kWh. 77x 0.03 = $2.10 for a full charge. Just sayin'.

Like 99.9% will be less than 300/d. And one can charge at home, with a 120v or 240v cable. It takes longer than a DCFC, but functionally one arrives home, plugs in, and forgets about it till one needs to drive somewhere. Home charging is being about 1x/wk, for my family. And as much as I like my EV, I frequently remind myself that every hour driving is an hour that I'm not biking.

Atelopus-zeteki,

LoL, and I would never suggest buying a new car. They lose too much value just driving off the lot, and in the first 2 years. I'm not sure what the current 'sweet spot' is, but unless one is 'fuck you rich' I couldn't understand why buying a new car makes sense.

A good point. Apparently this is the case. Mechanically speaking they are much simple vehicles, even if they have all the fancy bells and whistles. I so would love to see a Toyota Hi-Lux EV, with manual windows, and the simplest most basic, just move shit around in 3D. Simple, light weight, and efficient. BYD is attempting to drive things (pun intended) in that direction.

It actually was black but it faded, honest.

And for people interested in the actual world as we understand it from SCIENCE, this: https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/16/middleeast/egypt-pyramids-nile-river-lost-ahramat-branch-scn/index.html - A mapping of a lost branch of the Nile, which makes the location of the pyramids make so much more sense.

I heard of this this morning from another source of great science, namely Microbe.tv, and This Week in Virology, specifically episode 1115, Weekly Picks from Brianne: https://www.microbe.tv/twiv/twiv-1115/

Floating Island Garden (lemmy.world)

Our retention pond in our neighborhood has a lot of algae and problematic plant growth due to the surrounding farms and lawn runoff, so we’re experimenting with a floating island to pull nutrients out before they can cause problems. This will also provide some interesting flowering plants, and more fish habitats....

Interesting, so less than 10% might be sufficient for your needs? That dosen't sound too onerous. I was at Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami, FL some years ago. They had a small pond, roughly 20X30 feet more or less, with Amazonian plants. Initially the local algae was interfering with the Amazonian species, so they put black dye in the water to inhibit the algae. At the time, there was also a showing of Dale Chihuly's glass work in the garden, including several 1-2 ft. multicolored spheres floating the the black water of the Amazonian pond; looking like alien planets floating in the darkness of space. It may well have been this pond, pictured.
