Bread,

I have to do this command often at work and I can never remember the letters perfectly. This is actually useful, thanks!

Bread,

They said issues that they don’t care about. If that were the case, they would logically only agree. So that can’t be it.

Bread,

It was a joke about the significant portion of lemmy users also being Linux users. Also that Linux users ( like myself) would be oblivious that somebody could dislike Linux or not be interested. So it is assumed that they must like Linux then and would care about things Linux users care about. With the magic of circular reasoning, you can then say that since they must obviously love Linux that they would then agree with the person and want to hear what they say.

It was a far stretch for a joke but I will stand by it.

Bread,

A Dungeon & Daddies reference is not what I expected to see today either.

Bread,

They do be looking pretty tasty right about now.

Bread,

If it makes you feel better, you would be long dead before you ever hit the ground. Jumping from that point, you would still be in an ever so slightly declining orbit around earth. I am not sure how long it would take you to reenter but you would have died from the lack oxygen long before then. When you do get there, you will most likely burn up in the atmosphere spreading your ashes over whatever continent or ocean happens to be below you at the time. A great way in my opinion to do cremations with maximum spread.

Bread,

I like the way you think! I think we could do it cheaper though. You know how we have that spinney thing at NASA for the astronauts? Well what if we stand that straight up and accelerate it even faster to launch them into orbit? They will already be dead so the G’s taken on by the body should be fine.

Bread,

As soon as they came out with scale, I knew core was going to be cut off when scale got good enough. There are just more possibilities with what you can do with Linux. The extra community support can not be understated as valuable to a profit driven company. At the end of the day, they gotta eat too and having one base system instead of two is the way they need to do it. The features are growing much faster on scale than they ever were on core in my opinion.

Bread,

I mean, they can’t force you to give up something you know if really don’t want to. Torture tends to be frowned upon in government.

Bread,

They can sure try, but at no point do you have to make it easy for them.

Bread,

Psychologically, the best chance they have is convincing you to unlock it. However, a privacy focused user that takes the initiave to use a custom rom like grapheneOS and not use any services that will compromise your data if requested might as well not have their phone exist at all. If they don’t want you in, you are not getting in.

Bread,

Let me clarify, legally speaking you do, but I am not arguing that. Practically speaking, that device can become fort Knox with a properly configured phone. Use a custom android ROM like grapheneOS and not use any services that can/will give you access to the content on your phone and that phone is practically useless to them. Even with a warrant, you aren’t beating today’s privacy and security practices without a major security flaw. If a person doesn’t want you to know what they have, they don’t have to give you anything.

Will their be consequences? Probably, but that may or may not be worth it to you if you are a privacy activist who doesn’t want to be incriminated on a legally but not moral basis. Or you could be a criminal with something you really want to hide. Doesn’t really matter in the end.

Bread,

That’s not really the point. Innocent people have the right to not have their things searched and dug through. Every person has some level of privacy that they want to keep. Let’s say you have nudes from your significant other and yourself all over your phone. You don’t want that information being seen by anyone else because it was meant for you and you alone. I guarantee your partner doesn’t want random people seeing them either.

It is well known there have been bad actors in the IT and police that will make copies of that for their own personal use while they are supposed to be doing something else. Would really want to risk that?

Bread,

Be the change you want to see in this world.

Bread,

Surprisingly this is not the first time I have seen a sentence like this.

Bread,

That’s pretty neat. Fun is a great way to learn new things.

Bread,

If you want someone to smile, you don’t tell them to smile, that will just piss them off. The real solution is to try to make them smile by cheering them up. Ideally with something funny or wholesome. Who knows? They might really appreciate it and be a bit more fond of you.

Bread,

Yes, provided that you already have their number and don’t send anything too risky. Following someone around with your phone to show them memes might freak them out if you don’t know them.

“Hey Lady! Stop running, I just want to show you my memes!”

“Get away from me!”

That is not socially acceptable.

Court Bans Use of 'AI-Enhanced' Video Evidence Because That's Not How AI Works (gizmodo.com)

A judge in Washington state has blocked video evidence that’s been “AI-enhanced” from being submitted in a triple murder trial. And that’s a good thing, given the fact that too many people seem to think applying an AI filter can give them access to secret visual data.

Bread,

The real question is could we ever really trust photographs before AI? Image manipulation has been a thing long before the digital camera and Photoshop. What makes these images we see actually real? Cameras have been miscapturing image data for as long as they have existed. Do the light levels in a photo match what was actually there according to the human eye? Usually not. What makes a photo real?

Bread,

If you are lying about this, then that means you only tell the truth. However, if you only tell the truth, that means you can’t lie. So you cannot say you only lie on Lemmy comments because that would be a lie and therefore not the truth. So if you are lying ERROR ErROr ErrOR PAroDOx deTECteD!!!

What is the cruelest "twist the knife" move or statement by a villain in a film for you?

I’m talking about a moment when a villain has the hero at their mercy and then does a move to really show what an utter bastard they are. There’s no shortage of them, but one that really sticks out to me is one line from “Se7en” at the climax from Kevin Spacey as John Doe....

Bread,

Wasn’t that alternative timeline thanos that said that though? He wouldn’t have met her yet so that version of him didn’t kill vision.

Bread,

It is the only thing I can associate with Wayland and Nvidia. What other possibilities can there be?

Opinion: Tucker Carlson visiting Moscow is like touring Berlin in 1940 (kyivindependent.com)

Former Fox News anchor and far-right commentator Tucker Carlson recently completed his speaking tour of Canada. Apparently, he wants to “liberate” us from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Carlson is now visiting Moscow to convene with the paragon of freedom and democracy himself: Russian President Vladimir Putin....

Bread,

They are implying Carlson works for Russia and they have canceled remote work so he has to come work at his place of employment in Russia.

Bread,

Looks like you were right, she definitely feels frustrated about being doubted and made to feel stupid. Hasn’t given specifics yet, but I am sure I can get her talking at some point. She said she appreciates being able to bounce ideas off of me without worrying about the above. Good start I would say.

If this shit is what women have to deal with constantly, I am not surprised there are so few of them in my field. Why can’t we all just get along?

Bread, (edited )

Edit: after a deep conversation with her I am beginning to think what I suggested is probably a bad move and I should just stick to the course you recommended. She told me she likes me because of how I act and the things I do and and most important to this conversation, the things I don’t. She doesn’t believe I have any ulterior motives. Which I am not sure that is the case as I am interested, but I guess I will not ask her. That seems like it would just kill our current relationship. If it happens at all, it will just be natural.
