Restore Points in Windows allow you to create a quasi “point in time” snapshot of the computer’s current state. It’s not for files. Rather, it’s for any time you install a new program, driver, Windows update, etc.

Using System Restore to create a Restore Point before you use AMD’s utility will achieve what you need.

  • Create Restore Point.
  • Power off computer and replace the GPU.
  • Use computer and test new card.
  • Once done, power off computer and replace the GPU with the one you’re keeping.
  • Use System Restore to recover to the prior Restore Point.

I’d argue that Display Driver Uninstaller is potentially faster than using System Restore. But I haven’t used System Restore since the Windows 7 days and it was really slow back then (also was using HDDs, too). System Restore is probably just as effective now.

Just a quick point here that I’ll keep this thread open. Please keep this conversation civil.

I closed yesterday’s post because it got real nasty real quick. We can’t do that here. We’re all gamers/PC enthusiasts, and we should have a welcoming and respectful community. Yesterday’s post was the opposite of that.

Therefore I’ll monitor this post and purge any comments that do not conform to the Rules placed in this community, as well as the rules placed by the Fediverse.

Everyone has different opinions, but we can’t be nasty to each other for it. I’ll always treat you all with respect and kindness.

Meanwhle, this article does raise an important perspective, and it should be something everyone here should read rather than just going straight to the comments to possibly insult each other. We need to think about what’s best for the community going forward, and love and accept everyone. It’s important we challenge our views, or else we’ll end up in an echo chamber that resonates the same hivemind in perpetuity. We must continuously challenge our views with kindess, not with hate and anger.

Best way to do that is to talk about it - civilly.

It’s possible, it could be helpful. I was just browsing online and noticed a few unresolved threads on Reddit about this type of issue and figured it’d be helpful to have that documentation here in the Fediverse.

Possibly something for us to think about for this community going forward!

I’ve been staring at this for 10 minutes now while drinking my morning coffee.

I think you did a bang up job. I’m proud of you, too!

Great! Do we have the technology to do a scratch off for 3D Pinball Space Cadet? I have RTX 3080, but my coins are from several generations ago. I hope that’s good enough?

Agreed. I think this would be cool party favors or office/work gifts. Love this.

This thread violates Rule 2 - “Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.”, and also violates parts of Rule 1. Locking it down as it got too political and mean.

Commenting to say the exact same thing, and reference a quote that gets passed around a lot. I appreciate this statement and it’s motivating to me to continue my education so I can pivot to the next phase of my career and status in life.

Definitely delicious, I love that cereal. I also started getting into Cinnamon Cheerios Crunch or whatever it’s called. really tasty. I guess I just love cinnamon.

You know what else I love? Decentralization.

Quick update - I'm going to leave the post unmodified since I already made it, but if you use authorized reseller Green Man Gaming, you can buy this there for cheaper! It's 32% off!

They're selling the Steam code to redeem it to your Steam account.

Quick! Use the Force, younglings, and get yourself beamed up to Hogwarts in the 1800s so you can experience the world before Professor Gandalf was president of the school.

Base Game: $40.79 (32% off)

Deluxe Edition: $47.59 (32% off)

Interesting! I was confident they're legit, as they're indexed by Is There Any Deal, and also listed as legitimate in the r/Gamedeals collaboration on Reddit.

While I would never do business with G2A since I heard about their shady practices, is there a source for illegitimacy with Green Man Gaming?

I did some internet searching and I see constant back and forth on both sides. I've never had a problem buying from them and never had any key revoked.

Well I just found out today that the Steam Sumer Sale is live. They've got Octopath Traveler on a great sale, and I also saw Bravely Default II.

Sadly, no Bravely Default 1 or Bravely Second End Layer is on Steam. 😕

I heard these are some great starting points to get a classic type of RPG that is reminiscent of GS! I'll pick up the first Octopath game so I can give that a go, but maybe I can find my copy of Bravely Default on 3DS that I bought years ago... but never played!

It's awful isn't it? It's super important that we vote with our wallets and we opt out. Just like all of us here in the fediverse have decided to opt out of places like Reddit. We'll build our own community, and Reddit will continue to thrive, but at least we individuals said no and left.

Sure Nvidia will still sell so many video cards. The combination of us opting out, combined with all the reviewers criticizing Nvidia will invariably hurt their profits, albeit very very slightly. If the value isn't there and the product doesn't sell, the prices will drop over time which snowballs.

The only thing we can do as individuals is to not buy these things, and train ourselves to not make dumb impulse consumerism purchases buying stuff we don't need. Thankfully, Nvidia just made it easier for us by releasing this dumb card. Use what you have, and flock to the competition when it's time to upgrade.

It’s weird that it works that way right? Must just be the nostalgia.

My brother and I chose this game many years ago for some reason and we struck gold. When some of my friends back in the day would ask me about this game and why I recommended it, I found it kind of hard to explain to them why it was great. For some reason, it hits the proper balance between puzzles, RPG, classes, and random battles. Hunting for Djinn was fun and incentivized you to find them all. While the dialogue in the first two games is lengthy, the story is incredible and makes you hunger to learn more as you progress. I didn’t find much time-wasting parts of this game, or areas that made me dread going through it.

So maybe for me it’s the nostalgia, plus the balance of everything in the game that makes it great. I last replayed the trilogy about 7 years ago, so hopefully I still have the same mindset when I replay it again.

Simba's beautiful, and that's a cute pic. That's how my and my significant other's cat is, he loves to lay on our keyboards when we're working or gaming. There's nothing quite like having a pet in close proximity to spam the F1 Help button when they're sleepy.

Ha ha. Cat owners unite! I appreciated reading that and experiencing it vicariously. He sounds like a good boy!

I’m more interested in Steam Deck 2, for the ecosystem primarily. It’s great to see competition like the ROG Ally appearing in this space. I’d like to see these platforms mature more and get more competitive so that I can get even better value for my money. Both platforms are so tempting though, and playing portably on a much more solid format (compared to Switch) is very nice. For now though I’m just gaming on my desktop.
