@skaeth oh yeah! The new ones are small novellas following a tiny party as they travel the world in a sentient Wagon. They're built like an episodic JRPG instead of being one big chunk of city politics, and they're full of board games.

Very specifically needed a break and a different space. 😅

But I'll be back to my first world eventually, so the goodbye isn't too sad. :)

@skaeth they don't have any obvious game mechanics, but they definitely also stem from my love of JRPGs and TTRPGs, so yeah, probably a lot of overlap with the genre!

I have one novella out and two on preorders (May 9 and September 9), and drafts for 9 of them 😀 they've been great fun

@skaeth it's a follow up to BAKER THIEF, in which a powerful witch and a scientist work together to free the souls trapped in gems. Big friendship story.

Unlike the novellas, it needs drafting 😅

Striking in retrospect how much I made my own aromanticism explicit to myself through this book, but also how much I grew from it.

I say these words all the time now, and I know that what I mean by them is 1000% all it needs to be.

Finished Nerezia3's line edits (apart from a quick last cleanup) this Saturday, took a day off, and now I'm moving to Nerezia4.

I am still mostly behind schedule, but I feel less stressed about it. Just gotta get butt in cheek and manage the dev edits on it.

And then I set the series aside a little. Give it a month or two of no-writing, while I figure out the 2nd Baker Thief book

It's been some time since I've had to plan a longer story now!! It might do me good to stretch those writing muscles, though I'm a little worried I'm not obsessed with it yet, which is usually what happend when I start a new draft. Maybe it's just that I don't have my outline yet, and haven't reread BAKER THIEF and sank back into the world

writing these books has been a constant exercise of blending opposite things:

the large scale of JRPG like plotlines and worlds with the space of a novella,

the tense and dramatic fight/magic of high fantasy with the importance of small, quiet moments in cozy fantasy

the desire for queernormative societies that aren't allo-centered with, again, the space of a novella

And the relationship focus VS expectations of romance arcs

It's very ironic because I started as a break from Isandor's complexity.

I have learned so much, doing it! I think it made me a better writer, even as I relentless pursued tropes and things that just brought me joy.

@lyssachiavari bubbly extrovert aroace is almost a trope for me by now. I love them and write them all the time 😂 (and Scylla is the best!!)
