I think its a reference to the mythbusters quote “i reject your reality and substitute my own”, but idk if epic rap battle did anything with it

I also thought the feddit.nl instance was hosted by the dutch? Or did they only have an official mastadon account?

User icons in voyager

So, i was a liftoff user because the app was the app that looked the most like rif when i migrated away from reddit in july last year, but hasnt had updates since. With the lemmy.world update from a few hours ago its officially dead though which makes me sad as the others arent like it all. ANYWAY, now using voyager and trying...

Hm, that PR is one of the things i was missing ye! Im not sure why it hasnt been merged yet though. Sure, the guy didnt ask if he could work on it but the code looks ok from a far and he has it done now anyway. Might as well merge it then anyway…

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

Personally id tackle it in an agile way, and implement it step by step as user feedback comes in. Like sure, id like user profiles to look like they look in boost and liftoff, but id be happy to see them in comments first.
But i am not part of the project so its not for me to decide nor tell you how to run it! Thanks for linking this though and thanks for the app! Liking it so far! :)

Sure, but why root? These days you can flash custom roms without root on a lot of phones (including my fairphone 4)

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

^ pretty much this

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

Thats a fair reasoning. Im running lineageos myself (without root) so i can also do a lot of customization or app removal. That and lineageos is freaking good and keeps updating older phones!

Apple Walks Back Decision to Disable Home Screen Web Apps in the EU (www.macrumors.com)

Following the release of the second beta version of iOS 17.4, it emerged that Apple had restricted the functionality of iOS web apps in the EU. Web apps could no longer launch from the ‌Home Screen‌ in their own top-level window that takes up the entire screen, relegating them to a simple shortcut with an option to open...

And that a week after eu announced they’d investigate apple for excluding the feature in the eu.
Looks like somebody was called out for having bullshit hehe

Knowing multiple people who have gone through IVF procedures, and have had it fail time and time again, i felt that as well. They were heartbroken, time and time again.

One lf them has a child on the way, and the other has stopped trying, for those who wonder :)

You can add framework laptops to that list too.
To have windows you pay extra, no os is free

Its gaming. I asked this in an old thread before and the response was gaming and emulation. Which is fair if you want the latest and greatest, but general usage on my fairphone 4 is snappy and fine so idk. I dont do gaming on my phone though :)

DacoTaco, (edited )
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

Fairphone 4 is not slow for general usage, but for gaming it can be slow depending on the load, ye.
Gamecube emulation would be slower than latest and greatest, but those soc’s only have 4 years of support, and thats not up to fairphone’s standards

Just like any hardware, it all depends what you use it for and what your requirements are.

Jokes on me for saying github != git though

Gigabytes, or gibibyte? Yes gibibyte is a thing.
As much as i hate to say it, but due to marketting fuckery the usage of byte has ruined it all as a 2TB drive is not 2 * 1024 * 1024 * 1024 * 8 bits but instead 2 terabit ( 2*1000000000 )

Then comes the discussion if “1KB” is 1024 bytes or if 1000 bytes is a kilobyte. If you ask me, 1KB is 1024 bytes. If you ask the people using the kibibytes system, 1KB is 1000 bytes…

Shits fucking complex and fucked up. Cant go wrong if you say it in bits though

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

My mistake, fixed it :)

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

I never knew the whole thing was considered part of the metric system, makes sense though.
I love the metric system to death because its so simple and easy, and it links different measurements together ( 1l of water = 1kg etc ).

That said, a computer works differently and because we work in factors of 2, 1000 bytes being a kilobyte makes no sense once you start working with bits and low level stuff. Other than that, i can see why the stuff was redefined.

Also, i think linux also works in factors of 1024, but id need to check

DacoTaco,
@DacoTaco@lemmy.world avatar

I agree with what you said, and its imo why the discussion of a factor of 1000 and 1024 will always rage on. Im a developer, and do embedded stuff in my free time. Everything around me is factor 1024 because of it, and i hate the factor 1000. But from a generic user standpoint, i agree its a lot more user friendly, as they are used to the metric system of a factor of 10

Polish Hackers Repaired Trains the Manufacturer Artificially Bricked. Now The Train Company Is Threatening Them (www.404media.co)

In one of the coolest and more outrageous repair stories in quite some time, three white-hat hackers helped a regional rail company in southwest Poland unbrick a train that had been artificially rendered inoperable by the train’s manufacturer after an independent maintenance company worked on it. The train’s manufacturer is...
