Dicska,

Well, that’s where they come from, right?

Dicska,

I have some serious suspicion it’s just evolution conditioning our brain to not try and eat these mofos. And maybe to stay away because some of them can give you a nasty bite (I mean, whatever that has way too many legs). Except people living under the most harsh conditions, having to resort to cricket thighs and locust butts.

Dicska,

I mean, I didn’t mean people were terrified of them - just didn’t generally consider them cute/attracting/nice/edible. But we eat quite a lot of things because at one point desperate people had no other choice and found out it isn’t even bad at all (think of lobster as a prison food in the 19th century).

And then there are people who just grew up with them around all the time or just simply different (some actually like spiders or snakes as pets, etc.). So yeah, matter of exposure is a big factor.

Or I don’t know, kinks : ). I’m just talking about the average reaction.

Dicska,

I wonder how that changes if we include private planes, helicopters and basically everything that humans fly directly or indirectly.

Dicska,

Wow, you did the math like a pro! Thanks for crunching the numbers, I had no idea it would be that bad.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

Back then, when I wanted to watch a film, I checked Netflix first, then amazon video. I only reached for other sources if it was unavailable at both. Now there are way too many platforms to pay for, and they are getting way too shitty to pay at all.

There was a time when I was even feeling good going “clean”. Now everything is dirtier than I ever imagined.

I’ve been thinking about something similar (as someone who isn’t a fan of rap/hip-hop). No matter how much I don’t like it (the actual music behind it is too bland for me), it has the greatest potential to deliver deep lyrics with puns and other wordplay.

But then it got me thinking: What the HELL is holding us back from improving the other genres’ lyrics, or actually slapping some decent music on top of rap/hip-hop music, and not just some bland base or short and repetitive catchy tune?

Dicska,

I may check some out, thanks for the examples!

Dicska,

Yeah but I’d rather eat the shells plastic free.

Dicska,

I have a digital clock with thermometer feature and a dedicated thermometer. I’ve been logging the measurements every half an hour for months. The clock is ~1.5-3 degrees off (or the other way around, who knows). Just be aware they are not always super accurate.

Dicska,

A flaming house falls on him. Or, more realistically, a flaming Boeing.

Will I ever be seen as truly British?

My family immigrated to the UK from Poland when I was six. I’m 20 now, speak much better English than Polish and feel like this is my land/culture. However I have a Polish first and last name, Polish passport and “unique” accent everyone picks up on, so despite this I’m usually perceived as an outsider. It makes me...

Dicska,

But not more than one, unless you want to do the Gandhi underflow.

Dicska,

It’s really competitive of them trying to knock Putin off of the top of the charts.

Dicska,

I used to recommend the owl to everyone back when the discussions were free to access to anyone. Now that they hid it behind the paywall, there’s no explanation at all why a certain word would be the right (or wrong) answer, how you would use the word in other situations or any other interesting fact. Without the discussions (plus the way they re-structured the Spanish course, setting me back and making it even longer), DL is just a dragged out beginner’s vocabulary. I guess it’s still okay for the very basics, but I don’t really feel I have learnt much in two months.

Dicska,

Makes me wonder how many seconds till they realise the users won’t be able to tell if the game is still loading or it’s just monetised delay. Bonus points if a user finds out, lobbies to get it banned and then they just include bullshit extra processing to justify it.

The future looks so bright.

Dicska,

You can turn off stuff that the programmers allow you to through a settings menu (that they wrote), configuration files (that they make their program to read) or fiddling 3rd party stuff that it’s using (like your driver settings, external libraries, etc.).

Similarly to how GTA V’s (could be GTA Online) extreme loading time was caused by a very inefficient way of loading data. Users couldn’t change the algorithm themselves; they could investigate what was going on, but the developers were the only ones being able to actually change it to a recommended version.

Obviously the story is a bit different with an open source code which you can compile for yourself.

Same here but with several games that don’t run on Linux. For some degree, I even understand the problem, however painful it is: ANY multilayer’s anticheat is a pain in the ass if you have to develop them for two OSs at the same time. Counter Strike: Source was virtually unbannable on Linux for way too long, and I’m still not sure where CS2 is standing now (I stopped back in the CSGO times).

I really don’t know how we could fix this, and no, cutting off THAT many games I like is not an option (some of them even barely have a (good) alternative - think of Rocket League).

Dicska,

Humans are selfish by definition (genes). It would be like rewinding a film and starting over.

The main problem lies within humans’ tendency to put themselves (their family/tribe/culture/etc.) before others’. I know there are fantastic people who don’t, but in the grand scheme of things, humanity will always be too selfish in general. I’d bet that will be our bane (we’re kind of slowly killing ourselves with it already).

Dicska,

“I wonder if I shoot straight up and stand under it…”

Dicska,

I love his excitement, positivity and passion for the subject. His content is great but I can’t get myself to listen to him anymore due to his speech style. I can mostly ignore the thick accent but the ad style intonation with the constant interruptions was just too much for me to handle after a while. But again, aside from that, his content is always top notch and he’s wholesome.
