EncryptKeeper,

They mean encrypted at rest. As in, Proton cannot hand over a copy of all your emails to a law enforcement agency, they don’t have access.

This means law enforcement would have to capture an unencrypted email in transit, or obtains your emails from either recipient individually.

EncryptKeeper,

They are bound by Swiss Law, so they have to comply with lawful orders. They are very up front about this even within their marketing that pertains to protection from other government authorities. They are also very good at explaining exactly what is protected and what inherently isn’t. A recovery email isn’t. In order for a recovery email to work by its very nature, Proton has to have a record of it. But at the same time they don’t require you to set one. Proton hasn’t done anything that they’ve promised not to. There comes a point where you need to put a little effort into understanding the product you’re using.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s not needed, that’s just it.

EncryptKeeper,

The thing is that in most cases you don’t need a VPN to protect yourself on a public network. The ubiquity of TLS on the internet already does a great job of that. Using a VPN on a public network for privacy and security reasons amounts to little more than the obfuscation of which sites you’re visiting, and some fallback protection against improperly configured websites. So while I agree it isn’t entirely a non-issue, it definitely isn’t as big of an issue as one might assume given the scary wording of the headline and article.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s hard to imagine that at least half the player base isn’t on PS5 where they wouldn’t care about the requirement, but I’m sure it would still have been a significant hit.

EncryptKeeper,

That’s in reference to Sony only recently porting many of their published games to PC.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s the corporate boomer way of saying it.

EncryptKeeper,

Well, 3 data leaks in the last 10 years, at least one of which wasn’t their fault at all. This change is bad for several reasons but “data leaks” isn’t really one of them.

EncryptKeeper,

Sounds like LittleBigPlanet without the whimsy and fun.

EncryptKeeper,

Well they reversed the account linking. I don’t think the anti-cheat had the same backlash though.

EncryptKeeper,

The micro-transactions barely exist and was easy be bought with premium currency found in the game. There are paid battle passes but none of the items within give you much of an edge over anyone else, and those battle passes also award premium currency which can be used to buy the next battle pass. They’re not timed, either. You can buy one battle pass and sit in it for a year before completing it.

As far as MTX go, they’re the most inoffensive I’ve ever seen in a game.

EncryptKeeper,

I mean you don’t have to spend any money on them. You can buy them with currency you earn in game.

EncryptKeeper,

If anyone else feels bummed out by this, there are a lot of calls to adventure you can answer at any time. 75% of fire departments in the United States are volunteer. If you’re in half decent physical shape, get out there. Disaster relief organizations like the Red Cross are good too. Lots of jobs to do where you can be sent to disaster zones for 1 and 2 week rotations, but also local disaster response, like showing up to house fires to help families find temporary housing.

EncryptKeeper,

At least you are the master of your own destiny

EncryptKeeper,

I feel like we used to have a lot more modding sites around. The Steam Workshop we still have which is great. Moddb is still active for some games.

EncryptKeeper,

Well, most of them were born here at least.

EncryptKeeper,

I think I’ll pass. Seeing that movie once was enough.

EncryptKeeper,

I had the same experience. Walking back to my car I had to ask my wife “Do you… remember anything that happened in the movie?”

EncryptKeeper,

Yeah why would Sony have a hand in censoring it? There are a ton of tittyfull games on PlayStation. Dead or Alive and MGSV come to mind.

EncryptKeeper,

Sony has a history of censorship on games that were fine on pc.

Do they? All I can think of is all of the PlayStation games that have come out with more gratuitous nudity that Sony didn’t bother censoring.

EncryptKeeper,

It’s remarkable how well this game looks, plays, and performs. The game was somehow made by a single guy, yet it puts just about every other medieval city builder that’s come before it to shame. Only real issue with the game is a lack of content due to being early access, but everything that’s there is incredible.
