How do I reply to older posts that didn’t federate to my instance? (kbin.cafe)

There’s a community on lemmy instance I’m subscribed to. This community has posts that were created before anyone on my kbin instance subscribed to that community. Those posts never federated over to my kbin instance (and I’m pretty sure not federating anything from before someone on your instance subscribes there is...

Granite,

I've been wondering this too. Hopefully the search feature will eventually let you copy and paste the source url to fetch the missing page the way mastodon works. Hopefully once the Kbin explosion fires are out this might end up on the roadmap if it isn't already.

Granite,

When someone adds a magazine/community to your server via the search features, that's when they start showing up on your server. If you are the only person on your server, then only the things you subscribe with will show up. You'll need to search with both the community name and server domain.

Granite,

I posted on a two year old thread (not on the fediverse) this week. I found the thread by searching and I'm sure other people will too if they have the same problem. So why not?

Granite,

Hopefully it'll mostly resolve given time. Just like when there was a mass exodus to mastodon, the major thrediverse servers are getting overloaded. This creates delays and it seems even lost messages. From experience I've had messages from fedia.io take anywhere from 20-120 minutes to show up on my mastodon. As admins beef up their servers, but also as excitement tones down and there is less enthusiastic usage, hopefully the problem will resolve for the most part.

I'm not sure what causes messages to be lost forever vs. just delayed. Maybe Kbin or Lemmy aren't quite as robust in that? When mastodon was melting down, messages could take 8+ hours to get through, but they seemed to get through. I think your idea about a resync idea is a great one.

Granite,

You get a similar message on Mastodon when looking a profiles. Federation doesn't really backdate. So your magazine will only have articles from the moment your instant learned about it forward.

Granite,

I'm aware of a netflix gaming community and I know there was discussion if they should make a community / magazine. I think they were wondering where to make it.

Granite,

I hopped on the other big servers and and added what I found interesting.

I've seen a few discussions about the "failed" protests and wanted to talk about it

So I've seen a few posts regarding news outlets calling the protests a failure, and I don't really think that's the case. The protests have clearly made an impact, especially if the Reddit CEO is willing to oust MODS to reopen subreddits. I truly believe that something has been jump started here on Lemmy, Kbin, and all of the...

Granite,

I 100% never would have joined the thrediverse if not for 90% of reddit protesting!

Granite,

The discoverability concerns really resonated with me from that article. I think even if I ended landing in a small instance, if I were to make a community I'd be tempted to making it a larger server for discoverability reasons.

Granite,

Discoverability is a concern if making magazines / communities on a personal instance. Although you could put alts or use friends on large servers to add them.
