Hugin,

It sucks but yeah. I’ll be holding my nose this election even though Biden has no chance in my state.

Hugin,

Nice. I always enjoy mezcal and cynar together. The cynar tends to bring out the grassy notes of the mezcal.

Hugin,

Prisencolinensinainciusol an Italian song that is complete gibberish but made to sound like an English language song. That’s what AI is right now.

Hugin,

On of my favorite small Linux things is you have a second text buffer other then the ctl+c ctl+v. Middle click pastes whatever text was last selected.

Hugin,

Her big there are The Left Hand of Darkenss (about gender), The Disposed ( capitalism vs anarchism), The Lathe of Heaven (Dreams alter reality).

They are all good but I wouldn’t describe them as easy or fun reads. I didn’t enjoy any of them but after reading them I a lot of depth of thought on the topic.

Personally I liked the Lathe of Heaven best.

Hugin,

Electrolytic capacitors use the chemistry to make a very high dielectric allowing the plates to get very close and increase the capacitance and decrease the size.

A cell in a battery is a capacitor then converts the charge on the plates into chemical energy and vice versa allowing much more energy storage and a flat operating range as the plates charge is replenished by the chemical reaction.

This article doesn’t go into details but it sounds like the breakthrough is a much better dialectic then storing energy in a chemical reaction.

Hugin,

Yeah should have that. Mornings are hard.

Hugin,

The main reason for there being so many varieties is that at some point in the past the plants genome tripled. With three copies of the genome not only was there a higher chance of mutation but a mutation didn’t deleted the original dna segment as it was in the other copies.

Hugin,

At my first job out of college they fired one of the new hires because he insisted on writing his own library instead of the functional and tested in house library. He was warned twice to use the existing library so it wasn’t out of the blue.

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don’t come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don’t really get upset by...

Hugin,

There are a subset of vegans who are very vocal an pushy about being vegan.

There are a lot people who think vegan food is just salads.

Vegans often don’t actually remember what meat tastes like. I have several very nice vegan friends. They sometimes that something tastes just like meat and you can’t tell the difference. In sorry but I can tell and vegan meat substitutes are often bad.

It’s too bad because there are a lot of tasty and satisfying vegan dishes but they are usually not trying to mimic meat. I love fried tofo or mapo tofu. I’ve never had a good tofu burger.

There are also a lot of vegans who are all or nothing. I eat meat but I also try to limit the amount. I don’t need meat at every meal. Some act like that’s the same as eating streak for the meals a day.

There is also a lot of complexity eating vegan. Just cooking for vegan friends can almost double the complexity.

I primarily limit meat because of environmental reasons. And frankly my backyard chickens are lower impact then that avocado at the store.

Hugin,

Now I want a commissar Bravo and Sly Marbo teamup.

Hugin,

Naked Lunch.

“The boy looks into Mugwump eyes blank as obsidian mirrors, pools of black blood, glory holes in a toilet wall closing on the Last Erection.”

Hugin,

We need to leave then some surprises.

Hugin,

In other news Ben Franklin steals time machine hits all the best parties throughout time.

Hugin,

It was disqualified for having an ingredient that was not GRAS(generally regarded as safe). Even GRAS is a pretty low bar for food safety.

Hugin,

Web MD is crap. Also GRAS is a term that only the FDA can bestow. So yeah it’s not GRAS.

Hugin,

It’s an odd choice but Naked Lunch. Strange adaptation of a strange book. It gives everybody something to talk about.

Hugin,

The book is MUCH stranger and dark. There is also the real like stuff they added in the movie.

The author shoot and killed his wife in a William Tell stunt in real life. He then fled toTangierr where he would go out have sex do drugs and come back to his room and write what became Naked Lunch.

His real life friends and authors Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac visited him collected the pages he had written showed then to a publisher and Naked Lunch was born.

The friends in the beginning who show up later to visit are based on Ginsberg and Kerouac.

Hugin,

Nice. I managed to make my house almost power neutral. It would be power positive but i have a EV.

Hugin,

$16K in parts, PE drawings and tree removal. With 30% of that back in tax rebate. I did the install myself with help from my wife. 11.64KW DC worth of panels. Anything more than 11.7KW and I would have gone from class 1 to class 2. I didn’t want to deal with all that required.

My degree is in computer engineering and I used to work in power generation so I was very comfortable with the electric design and working with high voltage and current. You might not be so comfortable. A similar system without battery was quoted to me at $24K by an installer.

Battery was about $2K. Tree was $1K. After rebate cost was $11.2K. It’s reduced my power bill by about $210 a month. So about 4.4 years to break even.

It was a lot of work on my end but I know I didn’t cut corners and was very careful to make a system that should last.

Hugin,

If you want to work at LARD your car needs at least 12 pieces of flair.

Hugin,

I have a feeling that if avatar had a platypus it would just be a platypus.

Hugin,

You can appeal any federal case to scotus or make an argument that a state case should be federal. However scotus decides what cases they hear. So you can appeal but unless you have a good argument they are simply going to decide to not hear the case.

Hugin,

I get the others but I’m lost on the C#.

Hugin,

I remember that the location of the reaction is random and happens anywhere along the beam path. So they are safer to use at long range like from orbit as the reaction is less likely to be close to the shooter.
