Telegram is notoriously insecure and routinely cooperates with govs behind the scenes while talking a big game about speech and privacy. Even their limited opt-in (roll their own) encryption is sus. The more you know 🌈

JensGustedt,

@Mer__edith It is just a pity that signal still has not the same functionality as telegram or whatsapp. In particular the fact that I cannot use it on all my android devices (phone and tablet) but that I have to designate one of them where I use signal. That makes signal not practical for daily use, I miss too much messages while on my tablet.

Finally! Cracked the SNCF Connect reductions mess, thanks to @RensBloom

It makes no sense, but bear with me

  1. Put ALL your reduction cards in your profile in SNCF Connect - it’ll look like Pic 1
  2. When you search it will tell you which reduction cards it is applying - orange circle on Pic 2
  3. Leave them ALL ticked, and it will NOT give me a reduction on a TER in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (as Pic 3)
  4. Untick all except Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (as Pic 4) and I get the reduction

Trip search screen, showing I have 4 reduction cards
All the reduction cards ticked - this gives me NO reduction
Only the BFC card ticked - this DOES give me a reduction

JensGustedt,

@jon @RensBloom Have you also put a Bahncard, there? Have you ever succeeded to have BC reduction on a FR-DE train?

The same time we were finalizing C23 last week with WG14 in Strasbourg, the early access version of the C23 revision of Modern C made in Manning's Top 3 titles last week.

You can access it here:

https://shortener.manning.com/K9gg

and you'd always find access codes over the books gitlab page.

Been trying to formulate an e-mail about this that I want to send back to somebody. I'm going to delete this paragraph from the e-mail but it's something that bothers me so much about working on C:

”… the community never grasps proposals or anything related to it, or reads the paper trail, so suddenly they're shocked or surprised when things go into C or change C. And then they advocate at the literal last minute (or post-last-minute). Even now, most of the feedback I get comes in later and later, and often it's sent as private e-mails that I can't publish or point to in order to say "hey, look, here's this thing we've done that has had genuinely good impact". Sometimes, the folks in these groups never communicate at all; if I don't literally dive into their Discord/Slack/mailing list/personally reach out, it never gets to me. Or anyone, for that matter; it's just a bottle of sentiments that never go anywhere. I cannot begin to explain to you the number of times I've heard feedback from e.g. [REDACTED] Employees or people in the [REDACTED] Division or some old, ancient Really Smart Assembly Guy at [REDACTED] happy with the work some of us are doing, but as like a small e-mail or a passing thought in a DM. And believe me, I appreciate that e-mail/DM/message a whole hell of a lot and it gives me motivation to keep fighting! But it also puts a lot of pressure on me to keep being the "Emissary" on behalf of this sea of people that are reasonably powerful and could change the flow of the tide with a single public post.... anywhere. But they don't. So I have to keep shouldering a ton of this work on my back, and every time it just looks like I'm some stupid upstart ruining C and not carrying the wishes of so many people on my back; and it's STUPIDLY frustrating.“

JensGustedt,

@thephd yes, publicly this community, like so many others, is dominated by public rant, whereas appreciation is mostly kept private. Large parts of it is based on the smart-old-guy-knows-much-better-than-you-kid paradigm, but part of it is also a product of the ISO model, not recognising our author- or editorship and hiding community work behind a paywall.

That means… err, the FDP has to agree to being in a coalition for a generation?

Am I doing this right? 🤪

@jon That would suppose that they enter parliament, doesn't it?

.... Did we not learn anything from windows.h ...?

https://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n3160.pdf

JensGustedt,

@thephd I'd rather say: didn't we learn anything? Such a new feature should be type-generic (we need it for all integer types!) and in particular address signededness issues consistently. Having it just for the legacy wide signed integer types should and could have been done in the 70ties. C23 has more than two hundred integer types. This is merely an operation and only our lack of syntax that we have to express it as a function.

Cet article l'explique !

Extend the Deutschlandticket to Strasbourg. It is cheap, practical and symbolic. This article explains it!

https://crossborderrail.trainsforeurope.eu/deutschlandticket-strasbourg/

JensGustedt,

@wolfgangcramer @jon They don't even bother much enough in daily operation to sell the tickets for this Cross-Border line in their vending machines. So their losses would even be marginal. Usually for this reason I take this short gap without a ticket: there is no reasonable way to even buy one.

JensGustedt,

@jon @wolfgangcramer on the French side, you only get them at the counter gare central. Ticket machines don't have them.

Now the map to accompany my blog post is also ready

Blog post 👇
https://crossborderrail.trainsforeurope.eu/border-stations-in-national-tariff-systems-a-simple-change-with-a-meaningful-impact/

Zoomable map 👇
https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/crossborderrail-border-stations_938611#6/51.693/12.296

The solution: include at least one (and ideally more than one) actual, physical border station in the tariff systems of both countries at a border line

JensGustedt,

@jon @polly or, depending where you want to go in Strasbourg, Take tram D from Kehl

13 hours to go!

Bought from MO.PLA - they had the best digital offer…

JensGustedt,

@jon Tried to buy it on DB, they promised reply within 3h, that was 12h ago. No luck with a foreign bank account and address.

JensGustedt,

@jon Yes, thanks, now I know 😔 What I don't know is if DB will finally validate my order. So I am stuck for now. Luckily I don't need the ticket today.
