Nithanim,

My dad is one of them. Always says that stuff does not matter. I once asked him if he followed the instructions closely and said yes. I did not believe him and so asked every point in the list individually. For every every instruction he told me that he didn’t do that.

Nithanim,

First time I read in windows update “we are commited to reduce co2 emissions” I was like “wtf”.

ASUS Scammed Us (www.youtube.com)

This undercover warranty investigation is a one-year follow-up from our series that investigated ASUS for motherboards incinerating AMD CPUs, at the end of which ASUS promised a number of improvements to its then-anti-consumer warranty processes. Spoiler alert: They’re still anti-consumer. We sent our ASUS ROG Ally Z1 Extreme...

Nithanim,

Gigabyte Aorus maybe? Some years ago I sent in my MB that suddenly stopped working via the store I bought it from. No issues. Repaired and fully functional since.

I sent in another one after for a very weird issue. Long story short, I think something is slightly broken with the RAM slots but since it happens “only” sometimes (depends on how hardware is plugged in; and also randomly), they could not find any problem and sent it back as “OK”. So I am only partial disappointed. Process was without friction and charge.

The board that still currently drives my computer is asrock. Won’t buy them again because they put the cooling fan directly below the (hot) grapics card, made accessing m.2 real shitty and were missing a uefi feature I thought was standard (from gigagbyte; which graphics to use for init).

All my boards fall in the highend category, but not the absolute top. Also, I am in the EU.

Nithanim,

I certainly don’t care if others get the game other ways (except unauthorized key stores). I am just happy that good games get their recognition and give people joy. I am in the fortunate situation that I am able to just buy all games I want. Heck, I even bought games for friends who were unsure or even dismissive “if it would be worth it”. I also buy/bought games that I never played or won’t play but watched streamers play it.

Nithanim,

This statement reminds me awfully of the Living World Season 4 Story in Guild Wars 2.

And yes, before people become angry about this comparison: I said “reminds me”, not “the same as” or anything else.

Explanation (hard spoiler!):

spoilerIn essence, you do everything you can, unite different people for the fight that determines the fate of the world. But… you lose and that was the only chance. You barely survive with your friends; but not all. youtu.be/jk5nfHxyQno?t=7220The Commander (you) are asked what to do (because you always had some kind of answers; a plan; every time). But since this was the only hope, you say “I don’t know.”

Nithanim,

It really did hit hard.

At least for me I could get into the next story part after I was like “wtf just happened” but for players at the time of release this was the latest part of the story and they were stuck with this awful last line for week(s).

Nithanim,

I did not even know that a DLC came out. I am sure I would have if it was good news because streamers I follow would have tested it.

But it is so sad. I really liked cities skylines because it basically is what I wanted from sim city. But with a million mods it would always break at certain points and force me to stop playing. I had such high hopes with 2 but seeing this game at launch and now seemingly still broken is so… well I am not really sure how I (should) feel.

The good thing is, that I do not have to keep reading and researching but rather wait for some “news” to pop up in my feed again. So I can get back to forgetting about it.

Nithanim,

I learned it too that it has to be “new”. Most likely it is a hell of a lot easier to directly patent it and have a strong legal foundation than just wait around and scramble for proof if it needs to be. Probably also helps being picked up by the industry.

Nithanim,

Somehow reminds me a bit of Midna from Legend of Zelda Twiligt Pricess.

What apps would you love to have open-source alternatives for?

It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?

Nithanim,

I sometimes needed something like powerquery from microsoft excel. To like quickly get specific data from a structured file.

Nithanim,

Nice, thank you!

Though, the “quick” save-post-button seems broken. The “save” button in the context menu works normally, but the “quick” one has no toast message and does not update the post state.

Nithanim,

Thank you for your detailed answer! Seems like you got a cool but complex system in place. I am so glad I mainly fumble around in backend. Frontend becomes so absurdly tangled so fast 😂

Nithanim,

This is currently happening to me and I hate it.

Something between linux kernel 6.2 (working) and 6.7 (broken) and all I have at best is a generic warning message that yields just a few results and all are unrelated.

Nithanim,

THAT is very shitty. My problem is that after using it for a bit apps start freezing for a split second all the time. Most notable is firefox. The frequency and duration of them increase steadily. Then opening a new program might freeze the system fully (or wait minutes/hours until it unfreezes). It has something to do with memory allocation “according to” dmesg.

Nithanim,

We have such a test too, but not as extremely dumb. But it’s still in the realm of: how do you wear your high-vis-vest? A: well visible from all sides B: hidden under your jacket to not get it dirty.

Nithanim, (edited )

Unrelated question: when opening an image fullscreen, controls are visible by default. Is it somehow changable to have them hidden at first?

edit: private messages are weird I think? The only one I made looks like I sent it to myself.

Nithanim,

Thank you! Also I just noticed that the app crashes when trying to sub to a community. Not sure about the circumstances yet, though. Going to bed.

Nithanim,

“Edit”: on 1.32 since i noticed, you made a new post, sorry

Nithanim,

We once had a very old house with a cellar that was not used and not built for living there in any way. So you had plain rock walls and it was pretty moist. I do not know why but there was a single basket of coal down there. So I have seen black coal but I have not touched it.

Crude oil I have seen too back in school. My teacher had a sample to be able to show it.

Nithanim,

My pc is on top of the desk and the ports are on top. The cable just hangs down and it is sufficiently long to allow mobility even a bit further away. It is also short enough that it cannot touch the floor.

Nithanim,

As pixxelkick already said, you most likely need some kind of mapping anyway between backend sql and frontend json. If you would have a language designed for interacting with sql databases it would probably suck for everything else.

In java with jooq and its generator it works pretty well, actually. You get the database types as java types and have rather safe queries. Type support breaks down for large and complicated queries, though.

Nithanim,

Jumping from the default kernel with zfs to the xanmod kernel using a manually compiled version of zfs. I don’t rememeber a whole lot but it was quite… interesting. Next would be a suddenly vanished efi partition and my f* mainboard refusing to boot ZBM.

Bonus: my currently still unfixed problem is a very weird freezing/stuttering of the whole OS and the only (useless) “lead” I have is workqueue: fill_page_cache_func hogged CPU for >10000us 4 times, consider switching to WQ_UNBOUND

Nithanim,

The only one I can think of right now is draw.io
