Les frissons et courbatures sans fièvre. C'est un concept.

(Me suis réveillée cette nuit en ayant froid)

SciencesPoulet,

Wondering if generative art complaints about copyright infringement are not somewhat partially analogous to the complaints of the reuse of audio samples in the music industry.

Here's today's press release for JAXA's SLIM lunar landing!

TL;DR:

Pinpoint site identification was crazily successful.

We were lowering into position, detecting boulders like a champ.

THEN ONE OF THE ENGINES DROPPED OFF.

(I kid you not)

(we don't know why yet)

(maybe space pirates)

But we still soft-landed on 1 engine.

(TAKE THAT SPACE PIRATES!)

but on our head.

Strangely, might not be a big deal once the Sun moves round to the other side of the spacecraft.

Thinking about hacking/producing the cheapest/fastest-built sound diffusers/absorbers.

Will add to this thread.

SciencesPoulet,

Specifications:

  • cheap
  • quickly built
  • not too heavy
  • not too ugly
  • tileable, can follow a wall border
  • avoid flammable materials if possible
  • effective (not just the 3cm pyramid shaped expensive useless foam sheet nor the egg packaging that is ineffective < 16kHz)
SciencesPoulet,

First thoughts:

  • first idea is either to fast-3D-print then fill wells with plaster/expanding foam/rockwool, or to 3D-print a mold then use plaster (or both?)
  • another idea is to design absorbers/diffusers in the shape of hemispheres, based on an auxetic first surface (paper?) (wide band, how effective?) (sloooooow to fold, can it be automated?).
SciencesPoulet,

"Just use carpets, shelves and books!"

Yeah I know… will do part of this like this way, but I can't do everything that way, and I want something quicker/cheaper.

SciencesPoulet,

So, first thing will be to… install the speakers lol. Then control the low frequences (already a big resonance < 50Hz), then control the room modes/flutters (ping-pongs between parallel walls or between 90° corners of the room).

SciencesPoulet,

It's a bit late to start this right now so… let's go to sleep.

SciencesPoulet,

Here a solid is designed to absorb waves around 157 Hz. This is one solution among many approaches involving metamaterials.

@ExtinctionR As if creating a traffic jam was positive for the environment. Be creative at least. You are on the righteous side. That's not far fetched to sublimate it. Paint it in white on the asphalt! It is good for Earth's albedo!

    SciencesPoulet,

@BlackAzizAnansi Am I the only one thinking more about product safety than theft? Making sure the products are not open before being sold, not having poisonous substances added to them, not being exchanged for counterfeited products etc. But maybe (probably?) I'm wrong and it's only about theft.

just watched a video about the lack of bicycles in hollywood productions. e.g. there are post apocalypse shows where there's no fuel or they can't use engines for other reasons, and the characters are shown walking or riding a horse. they never try bikes even though it's the most popular mode of transportation on the planet. Daryl from TWD on a bicycle? uncool. if a protagonist is doing it, it's a comedy. riding a bicycle is seen as a ridiculous thing to do unless you're a child. I am stunned.

    SciencesPoulet,
