When money is not in circulation, it’s not being used to pay for goods and services…it’s just…sitting there being hoarded.

This is why I think the velocity of money should be a key economic indicator. Money moving around and doing work is what makes an economy better for everyone. When it starts to pool in the economy it slows down and benefits only a few.

This is another thing I learned from “Making Money”

Terry Pratchett’s “Making Money” taught me enough economics to know that individual debt and national debt are two different things.

I’d drop the projector interface, as cool as it is, since you have a phone for that. Maybe make it a pendant as well as a pin.

Apple’s got a lot of experience with using tiny speakers in loud places, so I bet they could figure out something maybe using directional microphones. Plus, again, you’ve got the phone so you can use the headphones.

Airpods don’t have a camera though. 90% of my photos are of things I need to remember, like a shopping list or a specific product I need to get Having to dig out (or find) my phone to do that is a pain.

And I don’t have Airpods because I’d lose them, one by one, and the replacements are twice the price as another pair of perfectly workable Bluetooth headphones.

What if I don’t wear a watch?

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

I could see Apple buying it. The form factor makes sense, it’s the fact that it relies on AI and has its own cell connection are the main issues. If I could tap it and have Siri take dictation or take a picture of something to get more information it would be pretty neat.

As someone who doesn’t wear a watch, having a little fob that I could use to activate Siri without digging my phone out of my pocket would be pretty nice. If it were a phone peripheral it probably would have been a lot better.

The time before I lose a pair of glasses is inversely proportional to how much I pay for them. If I spent $400 on glasses they would likely disappear off my face before I left the store

I grew to love them, too, but I had to overcome decades of muscle memory first.

I’ve been playing Civ since the first release, and this is the pattern with all of them. The transition to hexagonal tiles was pretty weird at the time.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod,
@Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t want a stronger AI because I’m playing it to fantasize about alternative histories. Then again I play FPS games at the lowest difficulty in story mode because I’m here for the story. (And also I’m shit at FPS games.)

One mechanic I’d love to see added to Civ is disease. It’s had huge significance throughout history and would be another fun layer to the game.

For example, if you settled near a swamp there would randomly be disease outbreaks. When you encounter a new civ your diseases would have a chance to infect each other’s units, and you would spread it to your Civ if you brought them back.

Military units who are fortified in certain terrain would slowly lose health as they suffer from things, and you could have civilian units that can undo disease damage. Hell, you could purposely send infected units to an uncontacted civs and decimate their populations.

To fight this they could add a hospital district, new great people, and new technologies.

With Civ VI the traders build the roads, so you just send a trader between cities you want a road built on.

Works just about the same except the source city gets some resources

Biden Administration Tightens Mileage Standards to Buoy E.V.s | The new rule requires automakers to achieve an average of 65 miles per gallon across all models by 2031. (www.nytimes.com)

The new standards require American automakers to increase fuel economy so that, across their product lines, their passenger vehicles would average 65 miles per gallon by 2031, up from 48.7 miles today. The average mileage for light trucks, including pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, would have to reach 45 miles per...

Trump isn’t an ogre because ogres have layers. Trump has no such depth.

Trump plans to claim sweeping powers to cancel federal spending: In a second term, allies said the former president would look at funding cuts for the World Health Organization and green energy (wapo.st)

Classically, Congress held the power of the purse, able to both bar and require spending. This imposed a significant limit on Presidential power. With a bought court supporting him, Trump would have significant ability to essentially chart power as a king.

Opinion | Mitch McConnell: An Asshole Whose Grave I Will Piss On

Several PA House Republicans boo officers who defended Capitol on Jan. 6 | Harry Dunn and Aquilino Gonell were invited to PA’s House of Representatives — but several GOP lawmakers booed and walked out (wapo.st)

“I heard some hissing and I saw about eight to 10 of my Republican colleagues walk out angrily as they were announced as police officers from the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6,” state Rep. Arvind Venkat (D) said in a phone interview Thursday. “I was shocked and appalled,” he added. According to Venkat, the commotion lasted...
