SirSamuel,

I thought you said inedible at first and I was like 🤔

SirSamuel,

I felt ya. If it isn’t misspelling word it’s random capitalization in you’re post. Gboard used to just work. Now it mostly sucks

(For the record: *feel *words, *your)

SirSamuel,

Like, fatally stabbed? That’s a bit much

But, you know, a flesh wound, a bit of an ouchy, something to make you think next time you open your goddamn mouth Kevin you ignorant waste of skin…

Yeah I’d say that’s reasonable

SirSamuel,

I think we can all agree that intentionally killing or maiming someone is a step too far. A little light stabbing in response to malicious cuntery is perfectly acceptable

What's best practice in this scenario? (slrpnk.net)

So I’ve got this Monstera plant thats been with us for a while but recently got attacked by these tiny tiny black insects that keep eating the leaves. I’ve actively tried to get rid of them as well as screening this plant away from the rest, but the insects seem to always come back. I’ve just read that it’s possible to...

SirSamuel,

According to my wife, a person that plants prolifically. The leaf is too damaged to recover, and too small to help maintain the rootstock. Get rid of the insect infestation, then cut back the stem at the node and allow the plant to redirect it’s energies into growing a new leaf.

SirSamuel,

Too right.

It’s crazy how many people in this thread either didn’t understand how endearing these pet names are or think a nickname for a family member = uneducated or some such nonsense.

My nephew called me ពូSam (pou, uncle) and I loved it. My BiL is Cambodian, I’m not. ពូ means nothing to me but when my little buddy said it it meant everything. He got a little older and one day I went to their house and he just called me “Sam” and a little bit of me broke, NGL.

SirSamuel,

On Reddit there was a thread along the lines of “Millennials, what’s your retirement plans?” and the thread was locked with a message from a mod saying they had to shut the thread down because of all of the comments about suicide.

Quite frankly, I get it.

'Star Trek' Franchise Reboot: Simon Kinberg Eyed for Paramount Movie

So now this just sounds like a Trek prequel, not specifically a Kelvin prequel.

SirSamuel,
SirSamuel,

So I wondered what the charges were and the penalties for giving OTC medication to minors without parental consent. It appears that the FDA considers melatonin a food supplement, not a drug. (Disclaimer, this is from 5 minutes searching online, I have no real knowledge beyond that). After reading the article, and lacking any other information, it seems like the investigation was spurred by the melatonin dosing, but the illegal part was operating an unlicensed daycare with more than 3 children in a private home. (Again, I’m very uninformed and guessing/extrapolating)

I’m actually not sure if it’s illegal to give melatonin to minors without guardian consent. Unethical certainly, but if it’s not a controlled substance or medication regulated by the FDA like OTC meds, is it illegal? There a some state laws prohibiting some supplements being given to minors. For example, NY has outlawed sales of dietary supplements to minors. If the supplement can be proved to harm a child, that’s clearly illegal. It looks like there’s not enough research to prove that’s the case with melatonin though.

If anyone has a better understanding of these things, I’d love to hear it. I’m really curious about this now

SirSamuel,

Makes sense. Thank you. I’m aware of what is sometimes a vast gulf between what is right and what is legal. I’m glad to see the principle of battery and the law are aligned in this case

SirSamuel,

Your posts, maybe. Apparently I’ve been shadow banned

I don’t even know what the offensive post was, there’s zero communication. I only post on my local city subreddit and one directly related to my trade, so whatever i guess. It was a good site for a while

SirSamuel,

Guys guys guys, it says could mean us. Obviously they are rich, but hey, maybe we are too?

There’s a medical report that those with larger than average penises are at risk of developing testicular cancer. That could be you and me! I mean clearly it’s me, but it could be you too! (This is, of course, completely fabricated. I’m just using it as an example. I am not at a higher risk of developing testicular cancer. I have no idea if that study exists tho)

SirSamuel, (edited )

I haven’t watched the video yet. Here’s my take.

The One Ring is quite literally the God in the Machine. The will of the Ring is to be returned to Sauron. If it is cast into the sea it would be found. It would get swallowed by a fish, which is subsequently caught and brought the lands of Men. It would be found by a pearl diver. It would be snagged by an anchor. Ocean currents would bring it within reach of the shore, and it would be discovered in a tidal pool. It. Would. Be. Found.

Now, I’m off to watch that video, brb

And I’m back. I was partly right! The creator makes some other very good points and I won’t spoil it by enumerating them here. Suffice to say Gandalf was not a modern CEO or politician, and took the long view. Good quotes from the books, and a great analysis

SirSamuel,

I had one like that a while back. I’d heard the song on Pandora a few times and liked it, but it was just background music while i was working. The tune was catchy, but I couldn’t remember the lyrics at all. I tried humming it into sound hound and stuff, but to no avail.

Finally my wife was playing Pandora when I came home from work and it was on.

Welcome Home, Son - Radical Face

Back in the late nineties I had the reverse problem. I heard a cover of Bakers Street by the Foo Fighters on an independent radio station. I knew it was from a Japanese version of The Colour and the Shape, but no one had the CD. (Actually it was the UK version of the single My Hero, but either I misheard or the DJ was wrong. No wonder I couldn’t find it.) Then, Napster happened. I’ve still got that song somewhere on an old HDD, in all its 128 Kbps glory

Today (2024-05-15) is Rooster Teeth's final day of operation. (lemmy.ml)

Rooster Teeth was a web-based media company most famous for the web serieses Red vs. Blue and RWBY. They started out on April 1, 2003 with the very first episode of Red vs. Blue, a machinima web series that was based on, and used models from, Halo. Eventually, they got very popular and expanded their operations over the years....

SirSamuel,

In 2004 I lived in a two room apt in Brooklyn with three other guys. We were all dead broke all of the time. We set up a Can-tenna to steal Wi-Fi from the coffee shop across the street. I remember watching RvB videos, and just thinking it was hilarious. Once I moved I got busy with life and stopped watching RvB. FFW almost 20 years and I discovered Black Box Down and Tales From the Stinky Dragon. TBH I love them as much or more than I did RvB. I hope Gus and the crew can hit profitability and keep going now that RT is dead

When ‘Lol, No’ Is Not Enough: Lawyer Explains Why Bogus Takedown Over ‘Fuck The LAPD’ Shirt Should Result In Paying Legal Fees (www.techdirt.com)

You may recall last month’s hilarious story of lawyer Mike Dunforth’s response to a vexatious angry demand letter from IMG, representing the LAPD Foundation, claiming that a t-shirt with the following “Fuck the LAPD” logo violated its IP rights:

SirSamuel,

I was taking to my dad today and he said “My lawyer is an asshole” and i said “Dad you don’t have to say lawyer twice” and I laughed and he laughed and the TV laughed and it was great

SirSamuel,

Based on what I know of the law, IMG has currently retreated almost fully into the pelvis, and is now in the legal state of “The Pool Was Cold”. They will eventually attempt to erect a defense, but for now counsel will need to fluff the case, as their position is inverted.

SirSamuel,

I definitely read this in their voices

“And remember kids! Yakko spelled backwards is Okkay”

SirSamuel,

The unwritten rule

There were quite a lot of unwritten rules prior to 2016

SirSamuel,

I’ll be having a slightly modified Old Fashion:

  • Bourbon
  • Muddled Bourbon
  • A dash of bourbon
  • Garnished with bourbon

I’ll make mine a double

SirSamuel, (edited )

+1 for accuracy, thank you

Related to fall protection training, this might be a practical demonstration of the extension length of different types of lanyards (the “rope” that secures the body harness to the anchor point) using weighted dummies. Some lanyards will stretch a few inches, some several feet. Their use varies depending on total fall height, anchor points, work space requirements, really a lot of different factors. But use the wrong one and you’ll wind up with broken legs and a wedgie instead of a safety report and buying beers for your coworkers.

I doubt that’s what’s being demonstrated here, but it’s a possibility

Edit: turtle loving duck, just to be clear, i was mansplaining for the masses. You clearly have a firm grasp of fall protection

SirSamuel,

Comon Dan, your birth was no accident. It was a beautiful moment where new life entered into the world. A life full of potential, a dream waiting to be fulfilled. That potential is still there, your future is yours to shape.

Your conception, in the other hand, yeah, total accident

SirSamuel,

TBH I didn’t feel that strongly, but I could not resist channeling BLM

That analogy works for many things these days
