Socsa,

The problem is that actual antisemites jump into the debate and work to linguistically push legitimate criticism of Israel into real antisemitism. You can see it right here, all over Lemmy, and presumably this thread. It’s incredibly obvious, and it’s also incredibly obvious that those people want to short circuit this conversation by making the issue black and white.

That’s why many people are very hesitant to engage with this even if they do have real concerns over how Israel operates.

Socsa,

But in all seriousness, Stalin was actually a pretty great dude

Socsa,

I know it has been said, but who in the ever loving fuck can hear this and still support this dumbshit?

Socsa,

Made him a senator?

Socsa,

Maybe a little trolling. I was a Bernie supporter, donor, and volunteer, but I accept that he lost fair and square I am just pretty tired of people feeling the need to relitigate the 2016 primary every 4 years, even though none of the candidates or leadership are currently involved.

It was painful for all of us who poured our heart into his campaign, and I understand that people were frustrated, but at this point picking that scab serves no purpose than to depress voter engagement, which is why I am skeptical that it is being done in good faith. The DNC worked with Bernie after 2016 (I sat on one of the focus groups and filled out several survey) and made a bunch of reforms, but you never hear anything about that for some reason.

Socsa,

My eBay listing says this is his hot sister’s poop.

Socsa,

Bro, bleach is literally how you are supposed to sanitize restaurant surfaces. This thread is wild.

Socsa,

It’s the other way around. There’s a lot of overlap with conservatives and big L Libertarians over idealized “rugged individualism” fantasies. Conservatives like it because it’s an excuse to continue marginalizing historically marginalized groups, and Libertarians like it because it feeds their ubermensch delusion.

So when conservatism becomes unpopular, a lot of those voters do the big L protest vote, so Republicans messaging to Libertarians is really just Republicans attempting to form ranks, not embiggen the tent.

Socsa,

Right, this is the part that Libertarians fail to grasp. Liberty comes with responsibility, and responsibility breeds liberty.

In some cultures there is enough civic engagement that they can mostly be trusted to build sheds which don’t become oil soaked termite nests after a few years. People take that responsibility seriously so they have more freedom. In the US, the attitude is almost exclusively the purview of childish edgelords who don’t care that their behavior impacts others, which is precisely what breeds the need for dumb regulations. The regulations for building a shed are exactly as dumb as the people building sheds.

Socsa,

Be in your seat 15 minutes after the published start and you will be fine.

Socsa,

Furiosa was great though. George Miller is actually making original scripts and doing a great job of it. You should support this if you don’t want more Marvel and Star Wars focus group fluff.

Socsa,

There is a nonzero chance that the last thing I will see on my deathbed is Chris Hemsworth’s bloody nipples.

I thought it was great though. Not lackluster at all

Socsa,

Lemmy “leftists:” good thing it was never about the Palestinians.

Socsa,

Really just likes of sand. Or possibly rocks or logs.

Socsa,

Why would you downvote this person? This is the bravest comment on Lemmy.

Socsa,

So you want to give control of the entire Levant to Hamas? The weird coded language only reinforces my previous assumptions about the linguistics involved here.

Socsa,

Do you have a source for that claim that Hamas is willing to participate in secular government?

Socsa,

First of all, Hamas could have held elections in Gaza or joined the PA any time. Second, the debate over what Hamas has or has not done with its opportunity to govern in Gaza, or to what degree it has had a real opportunity to build a society post-occupation, or whether it can be a trustworthy partner, are all secondary to my question here.

My understanding of the anti-zionist stance is that there can be no two state solution, and that Israel must be forcibly dissolved, typically with little concern about what comes after that. That is what I am trying to better grasp here.

Is an opposition to settlements, condemnation of functional apartheid and being in favor of a two state solution really anti-zionism now? I have held those stances for a long time, but I have serious concerns about mixing those positions with what has historically been perceived as a significantly more extreme stance, via language used by some particularly problematic groups I do not want as bedfellows.

Socsa,

People perceive food very differently. Reheated food tends to have very different texture than fresh, which some people don’t mind (or even prefer), especially people who grow up eating lots of frozen food and leftovers.

Socsa,

Veganism itself is honestly a bit of a cult. In many ways it is an extremist moral position which actually takes on some pretty unhealthy habits just in case fish have feelings.

Socsa,

Lemmy is honestly a pretty awful intersection of censorship and extremism. Reddit is shit because of the monetization push, but Lemmy is honestly far worse when it comes to just normal discussion being randomly removed for stepping outside a very particular orthodoxy.

Socsa,

This. I am a leftist, but not the kind who thinks Lenin’s self serving ideas translate very well into the modern world. Which in Lemmy terms, apparently makes me a fascist.

More recently I seem to just be a marked man anywhere on .ml, after questioning some seriously petty moderating decisions.

Socsa, (edited )

Lemmy when Stalin starves ten million Ukrainians: 🙈

Lemmy when Mao starves ten million Chinese: 🙉
