Could we get an introduction into who the new team lead is, what their experience is, and maybe some info on the rest of the team? The current repo owner has no information and has only ever worked on Mlem with this user account. Not exactly confidence inspiring from afar.
I have seen many a democratic initiative ruined by trolls, bot accounts, duplicate accounts, and assholes. The best way to ensure that democracy doesn't spiral into Haiti is to allow only financial contributors of $5 or more to vote (once the boss man has his contributions system up and running). You want to help build this...
My primary argument is that they post hateful content and covid conspiracies and it is irresponsible to platform this by including it in our federation. Secondly we already got rid of lemmygrad. Thirdly, there's little to be lost in the defederation given the type of stuff being posted over there. Do as thou wilt...
Block them yourself. Defederation is against the principles of the fediverde. If you are looking for an instance that is more isolated, look into Beehaw.org.
+1 here. If growth slows and donations drop, the instance needs some savings to continue operating, or if another server upgrade is needed with a large capital expense. Not everything is OpEx.
CEO Steve Huffman says tech giants should not be able to trawl Reddit’s huge store of data for free. But that information came from users, not the company
The mods there have decided to allow underage looking content, skirting close to CP. Unless we want such disgusting stuff on our feed, I think we should defederate from that instance....
Defed should be a last resort nuclear option. If this kind of activity isn’t overflowing over into our instance, I don’t see the problem, just block/filter. Now if this stuff flows into our feeds, grab the axe.
“Guys this is a democracy I promise. Just do your jobs and don’t complain, speak out, or vote against anything we say. You guys totally still are stakeholders in this platform though. Please volunteer more of your time so we can monetize your free content. Thanks!” - Reddit Admins
Great to hear that there is a dialog open between the admins. Hopefully it is all sorted swiftly. Federating with all of the large instances is important for the continued growth of the platform.
One of the things I don't really want to self host is a mail server, especially for outbound mail. Currently I'm using a Gmail account, but I want to change that....
Idk what the culture is over there but it was just a bit funny to see the entire thread I was replying to just removed. Like that doesn't happen here on kbin lmao. a bit of a culture clash there I guess....
For sure. It would be interesting if a method to migrate instances was built into the backend of lemmy, but this could potentially cause a lot of headache for instance owners as well. Probably not in the cards, but would solve this problem for sure.

[Vote] guess I gotta make a post for this over here. Do we defederate with exploding-heads.com
