Most of my jobs have been by referral. So I knew someone in the job before I even applied.
During one in-person interview, I walked through the office with my prospective hire, talked to a number of the current staff, and saw the (miserable) conditions of the office. This was - ostensibly - while they were interviewing me.
I was reluctant to take the job, and spoke to the hiring manager, who offered me an additional $10k on top of the first offer. Then I used their salary negotiation to leverage a wage bump at my own office, because I was able to see what I was worth on the open market.
In that situation it is clearly wrong not to help, because in the case of a miscarriage the fetus would die also presumably. And many Christians would agree.
Many wouldn’t. The ones that wouldn’t tend to be more well-financed and politically well-connected in my home town of Houston. And therein lays the rub.
But for cases of no risk to the mother
There is no such thing as a “no risk” pregnancy. The question every expectant mother has to ask is how much risk they’re willing to take. And that’s a question some folks would argue is best answered by the woman and her doctor, rather than a state appellate court or a legislature’s pray circle or a police officer with an itchy trigger finger.

Everyone has a story about a guy who got flung clear. I’ve never met anyone who has actually been flung clear. I do have a friend who got trapped in a car after it flipped when her hand was pinned by a broken seat. But the seat belt saved her life.
So many times I see someone blame environmental destruction or poverty or warfare or whatever on “capitalism”
Can’t imagine what the BP Horizon rig explosion or the economic emiseration caused by prison privatization or the MIC arms export industry would have to do with capitalism.
These people are probably just on too much TikTok.
Industrial productivity comes at the cost of the environment.
There’s no industrial productivity that comes from sustainability. You can only harvest to exhaustion. And you can never give back any more than you take.
This is the nature of industry and not at all the nature of profit chasing.
Like, that’s just how mining works.
No mining but strip mining.
Even industrial pollution isn’t a new concern.
An unsolvable concern. Certainly not one that industrial recycling and waste mitigation can address.
In that sense, capitalism is absolutely responsible for Net Increase In Per Capita Pollution.
It isn’t merely that bad things happen. It is that in a private model, the economic benefit of production is given priority over the social cost of ecological degradation. Soviet central planned economies, operating as a holistic body, must account for waste. And while they can have a tolerance of it in pursuit of longer term goals, they cannot ignore ecological costs indefinitely. The Dengist industrial period is a perfect case in point. Although, under Lenin at least, the Russian Soviets gave ecological preservation a priority not known since at least Catherine the Great.
“Capitalism” in the functional sense is an ecological moral hazard. Westward expansion is uniformly recognized as an ecological blight, with a number of very plain incentives to wage war through ecological destruction, most notably during the Indian Wars. And plantation ecology was nearly as bad as its labor practice, with southern tobacco farming rapidly depleting the soil and causing crop failure that even 18th century rural aristocrats couldn’t ignore.
These two economic systems are not the same in this regard.
can you even imagine a single member of the KKK being a democrat?
A lot of local politics takes place in these very well-financed and well-organized partisan units that operate independent of the national scene. A big part of the Democratic Party in West Virginia has always kinda sucked - putting up guys like Joe Manchin and Jim Justice (who won as a Democrat and immediately flipped to Republican) - without any real respect for popular sentiments in the state. Kentucky Party Democrats put up a “Pro-Trump” candidate Amy McGrath in 2020. Ohio Democrats (other than Sherrod Brown) are almost universally awful, in their habit of supporting climate denialism and copaganda. My own mayor, John Whitmire, has been friendly with Greg Abbott, Rick Perry, and the Bushs since he took office in the state senate in 1983.
So yes. I can very easily imagine a batch of die-hard Zell Miller democrats camped out in a backwater Florida county that think their party has been taken over by Woke Soy Antifa Communists like Joe Biden.
Michigan has a storied history of large “Uncommitted” votes in uncontested primaries.
For example, “Uncommitted” picked up 16.08% of the vote against Obama in 2012.
They picked up 10% and in an election year with 70% lower turnout. And Obama shed 300k votes from his 2008 high. Incidentally, Hillary shed 300,000 additional votes relative to Obama’s 2012 performance. A state that was safely blue decayed to red thanks to growing dissatisfaction in the Dem base. It wasn’t until 2020 that Dems recovered.
Also, you claim it’s evidence that registered Democrats are abandoning Biden
If voting against the incumbent isn’t a sign of abandonment, I’m not sure what else is. Certainly the Nikki Haley Republicans are a shot across Trump’s bow.
Perhaps Dems are just banking on a historically low turnout year overall. But no matter how you slice it, Biden’s support has waned considerably from 2020. He’s not going to hit that 2.8M mark again.
But then how are news sources going to make otherwise mundane events sound noteworthy?
Flipping the county is absolutely noteworthy, both because it was a recall election and because it flipped parties. Might want to fixate on the actual policy changes promised by the incoming administration, rather than the pure horse-race aspect of an election that’s six months off.
BTW, 100% of person making this reply voted Democrat, therefore everyone in the country will also vote democrat.
Unless they’re betrayed by the Fifth Columnist Trump-Loving Idiot Leftist College Muslims Who Hate America, of course.
