So uh... I just rejected an account request that simply entered "LastPass cutie.city" in the "Additional information" box*. :blobfox_box:​ If you're that person, I just wanna say:

  1. Sorry! Feel free to submit another account request, and make sure LastPass doesn't overwrite whatever you were trying to put in that box. :cat_love:​

  2. Please please please switch from LastPass to a more secure password manager! Here's a great post about why it's important:

  • The "Additional information" box is more commonly labeled "Reasons for joining" or "Why do you want to join?". I made some tiny changes to the code to tailor it to 's requirements - see the attached screenshot if you're curious! :corgi_wink:​ :lots_of_love:​

Annoying that Mastodon restricts me to 5 questions in a poll. Or at least all the clients I've tried with it does. And most of the clients also does a poor job displaying long texts in poll options :/

@Reina It looks like your instance is running glitch-soc, which fortunately makes it super easy to change a bunch of Mastodon's arbitrary limits! You'd have to ask your instance admin to make the change, but if they're open to the idea, all they'd have to do is set the values they want in the instance's .env.production file: https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/blob/ca6c62068e35537251cc650c8b2d03a1a2163d06/.env.production.sample#L257-L261

I hadn't considered the possibility that some clients might not display long poll options well, though - that's definitely important to keep in mind when setting the character limit for poll options! :lots_of_love:​

@Reina @OctaviaConAmore Oof, an admin not using their own instance is worrying! :shiba_oh:​ And yeah, posts not migrating over is a huge bummer - I manually copied most of mine over when I moved, but... I wouldn't recommend doing that, it was way more tedious and less worth it than I thought it would be, lol. :zerotwo_dead:​

pro tip:

  1. Go to Preferences → Trends → Trending links.
  2. Find a story by the New York Times, and check the box next to it.
  3. Click the "Disallow publisher" button.

This will make it so that the will never show up on your instance's "Explore → News" page. Good riddance! :chick_thumbs_up:​
