After listening to the Apple Vision Pro VoiceOver demo, all I have to say is, if you always wanted a computer where the only way to navigate was to press the Tab key umpteen zillion times, you'll love VoiceOver on Vision Pro. Using sighted apps is going to be terrible. Maybe there will be a killer accessibility app, but, then, we'll have to decide if it's killer enough for a $3,500 headset with a 2 hour battery.

@bryansmart I think you can connect wireless keyboard, and maybe VO can support all the VO shortcuts. Since it has M2 chip, maybe it can replace laptop in the future.

Theme of the day? Cheese Tasting. That was kinda interesting indeed. Didn't have much time for mixing nor quantization, so whatever I guess. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FFYxmny-6d4

@ToniBarth That's minor blues scale. 1 b3 4 b5 5 b7.

I have been gifted 'The Vale' on steam, so yesterday was the first time I actually had to use steam in any meaningful way.
Steam is definitely not gonna win any awards for accessibility.
The game is good though. Works with my Stadia controller too.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof Someone just told me that VOCR doesn't work on Steam. I think it probably swalows all the keyboard shortcuts other than some MacOS built-in shortcuts for their games. Do you mind confirming it?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof Thanks for confirming it.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof In a way it makes sense because they probably want to make all shortcuts available for game developers to utilize.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof Do you guys have keyboard maestro? If so, can you try run some a global macro with a shortcut attached to it? It might not even have to do with shortcut. It might be failing to grab the Steam window.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof Does the steam window appear in the system dialog? Or does it appear as its own app that you can focuss with command+tab?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof What do you see if you open the window chooser with vo+f2 twice?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @TheQuinbox @FreakyFwoof Yeah if v works but not w, then it's an issue with not being able to grab the window. The question is... Do I want to fix it enough to install steam? lol

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @TheQuinbox @FreakyFwoof Can someone run this and see if it works on Steam? I added target window control+command+shift+t that allows you to choose a window to scan. I also added some announcement for debug purpose when it fails. It's not signed app. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fhmnlyibtke8gz6/VOCR%20v1.1.0-alpha.1.zip?dl=1

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @TheQuinbox @FreakyFwoof Are you saying control+shift+command+t doesn't give you any choice?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @TheQuinbox @FreakyFwoof That is very strange.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @TheQuinbox @FreakyFwoof Well now at least we know it's not shortcut problem. lol It's definitely window access problem.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof @pitermach @TheQuinbox Thanks for trying it! Now I know steam is on homebrew, it should be fairly easy to install and uninstall, right? I'll just do that.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof @TheQuinbox Just out of curiosity, is there any accessible game on steam?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof @TheQuinbox Interesting. It has a window with size of 1 pixel by 1 pixel. lol According to VoiceOver, it should have two windows, but I can see only one window with VOCR.

With the Orchestral Tools 2023 Sale going on over at Native Instrument's website, its time for a review of Metropolis Ark 1. You'll also find alot of information about which libraries I can recommend getting from Orchestral Tools and which you should avoid at any cost whatsoever. The library is so comprehensive that the video is almost 40 minutes in length, but if you're interested in epic orchestral sounds than stick around for a bit, I promise it won't hurt: https://youtu.be/_u6LKO24_1Q

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@ToniBarth I bought ARC 1-4 last year, and it was a Definitely more expensive side of purchase. It's been collecting digital dust, and I haven't been incorporating into my workflow yet. This reminds me I should revisit and make money spent worthwhile.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@ToniBarth Do you think they have a plan to release Arc 5 in Kontakt?

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@ToniBarth Oh sweet! Didn't know that!

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@ToniBarth Hmm, people are debating if Arc5 on NKS sale is really Kontakt or Sine. Do you know anyone who actually bought it and can confirm it runs on Kontakt?

Last week Tim Adnitt from Native Instruments told me that circa 2003 when Space Designer (convolution plugin now built into Logic) initially came out, he paid £600 for it. Now it just ships with Logic like it's nothing. Sure it's probably 20 or so years old, but that's just amazing to think about, that at one time, convolution plugins like that were difficult to make, and likely very heavy on CPU. Now we run these things like it's nothing. Perhaps we've become very cynical about the power of some plugins we use and think it's nothing. Or they're boring. Or 'wow, any old computer could run this' etc.
Made me really step back for a minute and try to see the forest for the trees.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof Yeah The forest gets old real fast in the tech space, and pretty much noone cares. Logic used to cost $1k. Think about your first hard drive cost. :)

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@FreakyFwoof Very interesting HD price chart.
Year 1956 3.75MB $34,500

@FreakyFwoof Which external drive you using these days? Samsung T7? It's new Mac time, and, this time, I'm not paying for a big internal SSD. 4TB was one thing, but I really need 8 now, and Apple wants $1,200 to go from 4 to 8. I can get a 4TB external for $200 to $300. Apple smoking serious crack.

chikim,
@chikim@mastodon.social avatar

@bryansmart @FreakyFwoof I also use this SSD, and it's usb-c. You don't need an adapter if you have an usb-c port.
