Hey there Proton community! I wanted to know the best and easiest way to get ProtonVPN working on the Steam Deck. I have very little knowledge of Linux, so I’m looking for someone to help me.
You can download it directly from the software center by going into desktop mode! It runs like it normally would on any desktop, although you either need to enter desktop mode after restarts/power off to ensure its on. Feel free to send a message if you need help!

One common complaint I’ve seen with Reddit is the negativity. I’m really hoping that the freshness of Lemmy allows the opportunity for a more positive environment.
Maybe the slight difficulty of joining a Lemmy instance will keep more negative folks away, too.
Hi. So when I’m watching a tv show or movie, and it hits me in the feels, I will think something like “Oh, this movie is wholesome, or this tv show is wholesome” Even if it has swearing in it, as long as the message is a good one. I’ve been on Lemmy now a couple days, and I rate lemmy super-duper wholesome. Maybe it was...
Teachers. It is such a widely known trope that teachers are overworked and underpaid. So many that want to pursue teaching now enter the market, understanding that they will likely need a second job at some point. Although internet kudos do little to actually address the problem, my respect goes to the teachers.

Very excited for this! I just migrated fully from Reddit and other platforms. I’ve been hoping to participate in community stuff that excites me, and this does just the trick!
I'm (probably) switching to Proton Pass from Bitwarden because its easier to create email aliases (all in one instead of making an alias with SimpleLogin, then copying that to Bitwarden and making a password there) but I've heard people saying not to use Proton Pass to not "put all your eggs in one basket". Can someone explain...
It all depends on your risk tolerance and perceived threat model.
I would recommend that if you do use Proton Pass in conjunction with your email, keep a backup KeePass file stored locally and in a few other places and update routinely.
The Proton ecosystem definitely doesn’t fit everyone’s security model, but it is a massive leap compared to what Google and Apple offer.

Why I think this is dystopian: the rich are spending their money to fly their pets on private jets instead of, I don’t know, giving a shit about anyone but themselves. And the government lets them. So, while we gasp at grocery prices, Ivanka Trump’s dog will be flying first class.
I wish that the United States had a proportional ticketing system similar to Finland, where the fine is proportional to income. $9,000 is nothing to someone like Trump.
I know this may not answer your question, but I would suggest to flip your thinking pattern.
By creating a solution that’s looking for a problem, you’re likely to not add much value to a prospective customer.
Instead, look at some of the problems and friction points in your own life, and see if you can create a solution to those problems.
Worst case scenario: you make your life easier, even if you don’t make any money. Best case scenario: Other people have this problem too, and might pay you to solve it for them.
Regardless of why you have opted not to divorce, this is a tricky situation to be in. It’s often so awkward when these taboo topics make an unexpected appearance in casual conversation. It sounds like your current situation works for both of you, and I wish you the best of luck navigating this in the future.
One of my favorite things about this project has been the transparency of development, and how it seems that they truly care what the community wants. And mmstick’s interaction with the community has been nothing short of first-class.

In the entirety of my time using the internet, I have heard of the lack of freedom that Chinese citizens face regarding internet access. This has always been held up as indisputable evidence that the CCP is an authoritarian regime, and proof that if the CCP is willing to trample on some freedoms, it’s willing to trample on others.
Just as the U.S. Congress has (somewhat valid) concerns about a foreign entity holding so much sway over such a large platform, it could be stated that these objections are no different from what China claims. If it’s wrong for China to censor and ban platforms, its wrong for the U.S. to do so as well.
Is it concerning how much data is collected by Tik Tok? Yes. But without parroting what’s already been said, this bill comes nowhere close to addressing the key issues of data privacy that it claims to. Banning Tik Tok without addressing the egregious data collection of other platforms is nothing short of hypocracy.
Today I saw someone once again trash System76 for rebranding Clevo machines and writing that off as some kind of deceptive business model. Ultimately, they’re not “just rebranded Clevo…”, but even if they were, the ignorant douchebag posting this misguided rant fails to acknowledge that EVERY SINGLE LAPTOP OEM does the...
