Research does not support the widespread belief that blue light emitted by electronic device screens in the evening is worse than warmer colored light when trying to fall asleep.

My next #WeblogPoMo2024 post is an expansion of an earlier thread on Mastodon.

@Jeremiah Did you happen to catch this video from Vox from a couple of days ago? https://youtu.be/isPxdnIND5k I’ve been meaning to research the one potentially useful claim/hint in it; being exposed to more light in the morning can offset some screen light in the evenings. I had never heard anyone talk about this aspect of bedtime screen use before; have you? #sleep

@cullmann I’ve tried using Kate across Linux, MacOS, and Windows. Unfortunately, the Windows port slows down if you keep using it without restarting it at least once an hours. I still use it on Linux but miss it on other platforms. It’s not enough that something is available on all platforms. It has to work well on all platforms too.

Sometimes the absence of something is better than the presence of something.

Artificial plants fall into this category.

@Jeremiah My Lego plants are incredibly allergy friendly (although maybe they didn’t need to be fully indestructible). 💐

One of my home ISPs enabled services yesterday. I’ve not had IPv6 at home in 6,5 years when my two ISP options discontinued IPv6 support in the same month. Unfortunately, it was my slow non-symmetric backup provider that enabled IPv6 and not my main symmetric-gigabit speeds provider. I’ll probably need to turn off IPv6 on my end to keep routing through the much faster IPv4-only provider. 🤷‍♂️

No one cares about issues like address internationalization (EAI) or international domain-name (IDN) support until their email client or service fails to deliver an important message.

@flameeyes Are you still using FreeStyle Libre 2/3? Tried https://www.juggluco.nl/Juggluco/ ?

daniel,
@daniel@vivaldi.net avatar

@flameeyes Here’s the selling point: you get a persistent notification showing the current glucose level that can be made visible on the lock screen. The user interface is … well, terrible. But you don’t need to open the app when you’ve got a persistent notification with the latest reading! Customizable alarm sounds and volume levels.

daniel,
@daniel@vivaldi.net avatar

@flameeyes Juggluco shows raw readings and normalized readings. It can also sync with LibreView, if you want to compare it to Abbott‘s interpretation of the data. You can transfer sensors back and forth between the apps. Anyhow, I figured you would enjoy experimenting with the app. You can always compare to a blood test. Overall, it works better than the 1,8 star-rated FreeStyle 3 app.

I‘m writing some documentation for better site-integrating with :vivaldi_red: -specific features for web developers. Anything you‘d like to see documented? My list so far includes Tab Notifications, Fast Forward, Accent Theme Colors, and more.

Issue number 100 000 just got logged in Vivaldi’s bug tracker. A meaningless milestone, for sure. Yet, it somehow still feels significant. Here’s to VB-100000! 🥳

daniel,
@daniel@vivaldi.net avatar

@olli We’d have 99 000 fewer logged issues if no one cared about what we’re doing. So, it’s a good thing.
