what has been peoples overall feelings towards bluesky?

am reading the bluesky paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/2402.03239) rn for my dist sys reading group and its got some pretty cool ideas

@pry it wasn't until very very recently you could actually host your own server and while waiting the company maintaining bsky social was more focused on growth & money so I think most people lost interest.

Well, there's lots of people so far they just only talk about Nostr meta and Bitcoin. Which is fine I just feel like I'm shouting into a void when I use it and am talking about literally anything else

@lain it doesn't have to be that way though, cuz crypto isnt required for the network to function

Theres a layer tacked on with lightning for tipping but its more of a convenience thing. I remember in December '22 it didnt even have it. I dont think adding it was a bad thing but I get the perception issue

I struggle daily with the moral dillema of supporting valve because they work hard to make linux gaming real but buying games on their store is not real ownership and my ability to download and play my collection of steam games totally depends on them staying alive
