I have thought about this on and off for quite a few years now, and I was just wondering what people here have done while maintaining account / device security....
I know you mean well but I’m honestly serious. I don’t have a house, debt or money. The most expensive thing I own is a store-bought bicycle.
We’re lower class people. My grandpa was dumped in the ocean and my grandma is in an unmarked grave. I haven’t seen my dad in a decade and I have no siblings. I won’t care because there’s nothing to care about.
e: This sounds way more depressing than I meant for it. Don’t take it like that, I’m happy. It’s just the reality that I’m not leaving anything of note behind for anybody to take.
It’s not that VAC is now trivial to bypass, it always was and is kind of by design. VAC is not an active adaptive anti-cheat, it literally just checks for predefined parameters and if anything trips then you’re flagged and will later be banned.
What happened here was that a source-code leak of the original 2007 TF2 revealed an exploit that allows clients to run in a no-graphics mode that still works on modern TF2. Someone found out that you can program a script to interact with the no-graphics client and make it do stuff like join public server queues and interact with the game world. So they made it run around headshotting people. Since the client is running without graphics, it’s very trivial to run tens if not hundreds of these from cheap machines.
I also want to give some insight because I see a lot of people wondering why the fuck they’re doing this at all but it’s actually very simple. It’s the thrill of the cat-and-mouse game and they’ve been winning it for years. I’ve developed cheats (in cooperation with the developers, it was a whole thing) and I understand it. There’s an element of fun to the puzzle game of trying to work around systems deliberately put in place to stop you. That’s all there is to it, they’re just enjoying this chase. A lot of them definitely also enjoy ruining fun but that’s not the primary motivator.
Valve, please do something. Fixing the anticheat wouldn’t only fix tf2, it would save many other multiplayer games plagued by cheating, including other Valve games like CS and the upcoming Deadlock....
Please educate me. Why can’t they fix the client to not allow headless mode to join servers? It’s not like the server software relies on it- it’s a completely different piece of software that has little to do with the client. Who’s getting hurt by simply not allowing headless clients?
The political compass is an incredible simple tool and as such it’s usage is limited, but I think this might be a useful/interesting way to visualize/relabel it....
Why does everyone suddenly seem to think it’s ok to say the R word again? I feel like I hadn’t heard it in years and suddenly everyone around me is using it, and I see it on Reddit all the time. Am I imagining it? Is anyone seeing this? I don’t even know what to say when it’s suddenly just everyone in a group and...
I’ve seen AC temperature controllers in this form factor. The outer ring can spin and will let you turn the temperature up or down. It is usually part of a larger smart-home system but it doesn’t have to be.
Yes. This was literally the concern I raised back when MS introduced this automatic zero-click bullshit and I was told I was paranoid; Microsoft would never let that happen! Now we’re here.
Horizontal turbines are better if you have space. Verticals are better if you don’t. Verticals are popular in the hobby space because they take up so little space and require less of an engineering degree to maintain (… generally). I can see why they would put verticals on their roof over horizontals if they want to extract wind in a low-profile low-maintenance kind of way.
