gaslighting noun gas·light·ing ˈgas-ˌlī-tiŋ : psychological manipulation of a person usually over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts, perception of reality, or memories and typically leads to confusion, loss of confidence and self-esteem, uncertainty of one’s emotional or mental stability, and a dependency on the perpetrator

i’d say use of the word is actually accurate here

Why do you need a 3d printer when carrots have been coming out of the ground for thousands of years.

they explain that in the article :)

I have the perfect solution - rdx.overdevs.com

It’s mobile-friendly, and you can follow/subscribe without creating an account. You can also import a list of current subscriptions from your old reddit account using a .json file.

The only issue is that it’s read-only and you can’t create an account, post or upvote. But given the shitstorm that is the reddit admin team, i view this as a good thing!

Ah i wasn’t sure if you just wanted to follow or participate. This solution allows you to follow but not participate

Decades of good work, all undone by her stubborn refusal to step down when the time was right.

And now the Supreme Court will lean conservative for decades to come.

I hate to say it, but I think it would have been a liberal win if instead of RBG, another left-leaning Supreme Court judge that was ineffective but stepped down at the right time was nominated instead.

Companies when trying to get workers to bond: “We’re a family, we take care of each other!”

Companies when workers ask for cost-of-living increases: “No, not like that”

And that’s exactly why lemmy needs to grow its userbase significantly before it can ever become mainstream.

lemmy has become much tolerable after i blocked all the meme communities.

i also block hexbear and beehaw for separate reasons.

The problem is - on reddit, the userbase is large enough that I can decide what I want to talk about. If i want to discuss underwater basket weaving, there will be communities talking about that. lemmy is nowhere near big enough - there’s traction on /all/ but not on the smaller communities.

I hate it that I miss all interesting low volume communities posts

I wish Lemmy had the Mastodon functionality to create your own lists of communities. I subscribe to a ton of communities and I have a couple of them which are very low volume but I’m very interested in seeing each and every post there. Right now I have to remember them and go to them specifically once every couple of days to...

I took a trip out to the Rockies earlier this year, and booked an AirBnB. The listing was for the basement of a house where a lovely old retired couple lived. The basement was decorated and furnished beautifully, and we got to chat with the couple every now and then. They gave us recommendations to a farmer’s market which was pretty cool.

It was the first time I’ve ever booked an Airbnb that was true to its original mission. This is what AirBnb should be - renting out spare rooms - and not a turn-an-apartment-unit-into-a-hotel thing.

Air Canada apologizes for booting passengers who complained that their seats were smeared with vomit (apnews.com)

Benson said workers sprayed the area with perfume to hide the smell. The passengers assigned to those seats told a flight attendant that the seat and seatbelt were wet and they could still see vomit. The attendant and a supervisor told them that the flight was full, and they would just have to sit there....
