OK, now I have to.

“Perfect” example of unnecessary quotation marks.

Perfect “example” of unnecessary quotation marks.

Perfect example of “unnecessary” quotation marks.

Perfect example of unnecessary “quotation marks”.

I suggest using the Block User button when you see something that sparks this type of reaction. I make liberal use of it myself, and I have a much better time on Lemmy as a result.

Eh, that’s different. Police officers choose the profession. Trans folks aren’t choosing the trans life, they’re discovering who they really are (maybe I should have just quipped “…the trans life chose them”, ha).

There’s nothing wrong with trying to avoid assholes, but when you start painting with a broad brush like that, well, it does smack of bigotry. Same energy as racists who memorize arrest statistics and then say things like “It’s not racist if it’s true!”

Also, to be clear: I don’t mean to accuse you of anything. I just see some uncomfortable parallels.

Personally, I don’t have a lot of experience in this area. I’ve really only been acquainted with two trans people, and I don’t/didn’t know them very well (I say didn’t because I haven’t seen the one person since before covid). Both were friends-of-friends type acquaintances that I’d see at game nights and the like.

Some people called Romans, they go the house?

They do tools for programmers. Big projects! But not stuff sold at retail. The plugin stuff is saying it plays well with the other kids on the playground.

And you get extras if you pay more.

Circumnavigated? Like, sent it around to everyone in marketing, one after another?

That…doesn’t make much sense in the context you provided. Autocorrupt strikes again?

elephantium,
@elephantium@lemmy.world avatar

That still doesn’t make a lick of sense in this context. It has the feel of someone picking the wrong word entirely.

EN-UK vs EN-US thing

That might be it. Circumvent in this context would make perfect sense to me, but circumnavigate threw me for a loop.

Going from memory here…

Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus/Neptune (don’t recall which order those two belong in), Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, then finally Titan.

I’ll look it up in a moment, but I wanted to post off the top of my head.

elephantium,
@elephantium@lemmy.world avatar

Ah! I was a little off. Ganymede and Titan are BOTH larger than tiny little Mercury.

elephantium,
@elephantium@lemmy.world avatar

Whoosh! I think I just missed a reference.

elephantium,
@elephantium@lemmy.world avatar

No, I didn’t forget Pluto. It isn’t chonky enough to be in that list (but it still has a place in my heart ❤️).

See, Pluto’s radius is about 0.19 Earths vs. Titan’s 0.4 Earths – or, by mass, Pluto is 0.00218x Earth vs. Titan being 0.0225x Earth

I’m never sure whether that’s a serious concern or just “I didn’t agree with the jury’s ruling. Am I out of touch with the evidence? No, it’s the jury that’s wrong!”

Hey, don’t put this on David. He isn’t involved!

Doesn’t anyone say ‘slashdotted’ anymore?

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. X sounds like a porn site of some kind

Ha, just like people gave you side-eye for mentioning ‘hotmail’ back in the 90s. “Hotmail, eh? Why do you need a raunchy e-mail address?”

I do agree that X is a stupid name.

Pros and cons of getting a job at a very small software company? (14 employees)

I have the opportunity to maybe get a job as a software developer at a small software company that employs 14 people. But my gut is telling me that getting a job at a small company like that might he terrible. Do you guys have any experiences working at companies that small?...

elephantium,
@elephantium@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a software dev whose first job out of college was at a tiny company, 10-15 people.

Pros: I learned a lot. Each project had different technologies involved. I def didn’t get bored! Basically no red tape. I reported to the IT director, and he reported to the owner. Nothing could really get lost in bureaucracy there.

Cons: Payscale was weak, but eh, it was my first job out of college. No room for advancement. What even is a promotion when the whole company is only a dozen people? Limited mentoring. While I had a lot of guidance from my boss there, especially early on, now years later I’m looking back, wishing I’d gotten a more varied perspective. You can only learn so much from one person’s perspective.
